Fujifilm X100s Leather Case for Camera (Brown)

5.0 out of 5 stars Well made, well designed., September 8, 2014
Well made, in a modern, somewhat sleek style, fits well and can be used as half case as well. I use a wrist strap instead of the provided strap, which is quite good but a bit cumbersome if you do not want the camera hanging around your neck.

3.0 out of 5 stars Useful, but backward looking, theologically., August 15, 2014

A useful snapshot of Catholic doctrine circa 1900 (and present day conservative Catholicism). Not easy to navigate, and a great deal of interesting trivia about various obscure places and saints, but some solid, learned articles, too.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good yarn, with the promise of more adventures to come., March 30, 2014
I enjoyed this book. The author writes well and the story has some surprises in it. I look forward to the unfolding of the wider significance of the "worlds" we have been shown as the series continues. How can you go wrong at these prices anyway. I hope to see greater complexity and deeper significance as the story goes on.

The Nativity: History and Legend
The Nativity: History and Legend

4.0 out of 5 stars An interesting book, making a strong case for the nativity story belonging to the earlier layers of tradition, March 19, 2014
As always, Vermes is worth reading, if only for the scholarly connections in his work, but, as always his hermeneutic method has some limitations. He tends to attribute everything that accords with later, more formal, organised religion, to later editors. He is no doubt right to be somewhat suspicious of texts which fit too well with the layer of material that appears to belong to the more organised and hierarchical form of Christianity that began to emerge with the formalisation of leadership office (aka bishops) rather than with the more charismatic, distinctively counter-hierarchical layer that is generally regarded as more distinctively jeshua-authentic. However, he tends to use this filter somewhat relentlessly. He is very strong when he deals with the cultural and religious context of Judaism, but again, sometimes seems to take the view that if a text is in accord with Judaic tradition it is necessarily authentic. I would prefer to use both methodological filters more circumspectly, and tentatively.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent translation. Reasonably good formatting., February 14, 2014
Aqinas's ideas have started to age. His take on the scriptures doesn't stand up to modern scholarship and he was unaware of developments elsewhere ie. among the eastern churches. Still fascinating, if no longer quite so authoritative.

5.0 out of 5 stars Contains some delightful surprises, December 2, 2010
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
To anyone familiar with the Western contemplative and mystical tradition there will be much that is familiar in Julian's "Showings". But there are also a considerable number of delightful surprises, and profound insights, that this reader, at least , found moving and valuable, most of them I am sure unique to Julian. Don't bother with the short version, but do read the introduction, even though it is a bit long, maybe after a first reading of the text, and before a second reading and closer study (which is rewarding).
