R&B singer and actor Marques Houston began his career in the boy band Immature in 1991. After a poor reception for their debut album they had success with their subsequent releases, of which We Got It sold the best, while The Journey received the best reviews. They changed their name to IMx to reflect their growth as people and artists, and although their releases were moderately successful, after two albums, they split to pursue solo ventures.
Houston's debut solo album MH received warm reviews, but it was the follow-up Naked that is considered to be the fan favorite. The album made the Top 20 of the Billboard 200, while the single "Naked" has been his most commercial so far. The 2006 release Veteran debuted in the Billboard 200 at No.5, promoted by the singles "Favorite Girl" and "Like This", which featured a collaboration with Yung Joc. Other contributions came from Mýa and Shawnna.
Houston's acting career has run in tandem with his music: his first role came in 1992, providing his voice for the animation Bébé's Kids, for which Immature also provided the title song "Tear it Up". Other work includes House Party 3 & 4, Good Burger and You Got Served.
