Beedle the Bard Ballad Writing Contest

We Have a Winner!
Amazon customers have spoken, and you have chosen Rhiannon D. of Australia as the winner of the Beedle the Bard Ballad Writing Contest, sending her and a friend on a trip for two to London, England and a weekend with The Tales of Beedle the Bard.

A Word from Rhiannon
"I am so thankful and honored for all the votes I received from Amazon customers in this contest. I'm flattered that they felt my entry was worthy enough to win this fantastic prize, said Rhiannon. "I can’t believe I get to read this special book, and can't wait to spend a weekend with Beedle the Bard!"

The Trip of a Lifetime
Enjoy these images from Rhiannon's weekend with The Tales of Beedle the Bard, and read her delightful blog [PDF] from this extraordinary trip, including this excerpt:

"I guess I spent a few hours with the book before calling in the bodyguards to pick it up, at which point Matt freaked me out a little by leaving me a walkie-talkie radio and telling me to notify him immediately if I thought someone was following or climbing in the window ... he described it as a 'low-threat, high-risk' situation .. and here I was thinking the bodyguards were meant to protect the book from me!"

Amazon would like to thank everyone who participated in the Beedle the Bard Ballad Writing Contest, either by submitting one of the thousands of delightful entries we received from all over the world, or by casting their vote in the semifinal or Grand Prize voting round.

Here is the Grand Prize-winning entry, as determined by Amazon customers:

Rhiannon D., age 16, Australia

When I was six, he was eleven
I learnt how to be brave.

When I was seven, he was twelve
I learnt to misbehave.

When I was eight, he was thirteen
He taught me how to cry.

When I was nine, he was fourteen
He showed me how to try.

When I was twelve, and he fifteen
He taught me to forgive.

When we were fourteen and sixteen
I learnt what it was to live.

When we were fifteen and seventeen
He showed me he could bleed.

But growing up with Harry taught me, mostly, how to read.
