What is Amazon Warehouse Deals?

Amazon.com created Amazon Warehouse Deals to offer great deals on returned, warehouse-damaged, used, or refurbished products that are in good condition but do not meet Amazon.com rigorous standards as "new." On the Amazon.com site, Amazon Warehouse Deals functions like any other "Fulfilled by Amazon" merchant with items listed under the link on an item's detail page. Prior to offering an item for sale on Amazon Warehouse Deals, we verify physical and functional condition. Because we do not order inventory like a traditional store, we cannot guarantee availability of any item.

What condition is the product in?

In some cases, we sell customer-returned products that have never been opened but have slight box damage that prevents Amazon.com from selling the product as "new." Most products sold on Amazon Warehouse Deals should be considered "used." For example, a TV may have been opened and watched by the previous customer, a coffee maker might have been removed from its original packaging and the previous customer may have tried to make coffee, a book may have been read, and a digital camera may have been used to take a picture or two.

Amazon Warehouse Deals offers these products at a discounted price because they cannot be sold on the Amazon.com website as new. Because we want Amazon Warehouse Deals customers to be delighted with their purchases, we thoroughly test each item and provide details on the specific condition of the product on the page with competitors' listings.

How do we evaluate the product?

We evaluate the physical and functional condition of each item. If the item functions perfectly and its physical condition is not perfect, we may still choose to sell the product. If the product doesn't function, it doesn't matter what the physical condition of the product is, we won't sell it.

What do the different conditions mean?

New - If an item is being sold as "new" on Amazon Warehouse Deals, this means that the item has never been removed from the packaging but the packaging has superficial damage.

Like New - A "like new"" item sold on Amazon Warehouse Deals is in perfect condition, but due to the condition of the packaging, it does not meet Amazon.com standards for new product. For customer-returned product, it's possible that the previous customer opened and removed the product from the original packaging. If a returned item comes back in perfect physical condition and through our testing process we determine the working condition is perfect, the item may be deemed "like new." Physical damage to the outer box of a factory-sealed item in our warehouse can also lead to the condition being taken from Amazon.com "new" to Amazon Warehouse Deals "like new."

Very Good - If an item has been tested and verified to be in perfect working order but it has cosmetic damage or blemishes, shows slight signs of use, has minor accessories missing, or the packaging has been replaced to better protect the item, we will assign the condition of "very good."

Good - If an item has been tested and verified to be in perfect working order, but the item has large cosmetic damage or blemishes and/or has missing accessories, we will assign the condition of "good." It's possible the packaging has been replaced to better protect the item.

Acceptable - If an item has been tested and verified to be in perfect working order, but the item shows signs of wear including scratches, dents, and other aesthetic problems, we will assign the condition of "acceptable." It's possible the packaging has been replaced to better protect the item, manuals may be missing, and the item may contain third party attachments.

What do you consider cosmetic damage or cosmetic blemishes?

TV with small cosmetic damage on screen

We do not sell televisions that have flaws that would impair viewing. What we won't sell
scuff or abrasion
Scuffs can occur when the interior packaging comes in contact with the TV or during the original manufacturing process. If we've indicated that a TV has scuffs, be assured that the scuff will be visible when the TV is off, but won't affect the quality of the picture.
small scratch
Scratches can occur when the interior packaging rubs against the TV from handling by the previous customer or in the original manufacturing process. These scratches may be visible when the TV is off, but won't affect the quality of the picture.
close-up, pixels
Pixel problems appear as a single pixel being stuck or frozen as a single color, like black against blue. Most TV manufacturers allow no more than three problematic pixels on a sellable TV. We count pixel defects and will only sell TVs that meet TV industry standards.
large scratch on screen
We won't sell a TV that has such a large flaw on the screen that it impacts the viewing experience.

TV with small cosmetic damage on housing

Scrapes, dings, and other minor flaws that prevent us from selling the TV as new. What we won't sell
minor dent in bezel
Dents in the plastic bezel (frame around screen) may be visible from across the room but will not affect clarity of the screen.
scrape on bezel of TV
A scuff on the bezel will be visible close up but will not likely be visible from across the room.
scrape of back of TV
Scrapes and scratches to the back of the TV can be acquired in shipping and handling by the previous customer, or during the manufacturing process.
crack in housing
If a TV has structural damage, cracks, or a puncture in the housing, it won't pass our criteria as sellable.

TV with large cosmetic damage on housing

If cosmetic damage is more than slight, we will reduce the price of the TV further. What we won't sell
hole in air vents
Due to rigid plastic construction, it is possible to get small holes in the air vents on the back of a TV. We test and verify the function of all TVs prior to sale and will only sell a TV with a structural flaw if the TV functions perfectly.
corner ding or damage
Corner damage sometimes occurs in transit. If the damage is only cosmetic and does not affect the picture quality or function of the TV, we will offer the TV for sale at a discounted price.
scratch on bezel
A deep scratch may be visible from across the room. If the description of TV says "large cosmetic damage," that TV may not be a great choice for a formal living room, but it may be ideal for the family room, bedroom, or playroom.
frame separation
In this case the TV is so damaged that the front face is separating from the back. This TV will not meet our criteria and we will not sell the item.

Other items with cosmetic blemishes on main unit

Cosmetic damages that are more than slight will result in a reduced price from Amazon Warehouse Deals. What we won't sell
wear on Guitar Hero guitar
Minor wear and scuffs on a video game component that do not affect the function will not prevent an item from being sold on Amazon Warehouse Deals.
scratches on camera
Cosmetic damage, like a scratch on the body of a camera that does not affect function will be sold on Amazon Warehouse Deals.
scratches on laptop exterior
Minor scratches on the exterior of this laptop do not affect its function. We will sell this at a discounted price.
beat-up iPod
We won't sell a used item that has extensive signs of use. Obviously this iPod has already lived a very long life.
scratch on remote control
The deep scratch on this remote control does not affect its function, so we will offer it for sale at a discounted price.
ding in back of speaker
If damage occurs on the back of an item but does not affect the function, we will mark the item as sellable.
damage to front of speaker
Items that also double as furniture (such as stereo speakers or DVD players) will not be graded sellable unless the defect is very small.
water damage
Items that show water damage, serious signs of physical damage or abuse will not be sold.

Box Damage

If the outer box is damaged but still offering sufficient protection, we will not replace the packaging.
TV with minor box damage
If the product is still sealed but the corrugate packaging is dented, we will not repackage. This may not be the best choice for a gift.
crushed DVD case
If the product is still sealed but the packaging is dented, we will not repackage. This may not be the best choice for a gift.
torn box for digital camera
If outer box is damaged but it still protects the product, we will leave the item in the original packaging.
blister packaging, open
If a blister pack is open but the product is still well protected, we may choose to reuse it. If it's too damaged, we'll repackage

Minor damage to outer box and/or packaging has been replaced

If the packaging is not sufficient to protect the item in shipping, we will replace the box and/or packing materials.
TV with some replaced packaging
If the original interior packaging is damaged to the extent that it won't protect the product, we will replace that packaging.
Item with replaced bubble wrap
To ensure the product is protected in shipping, we will sometimes choose to replace the interior packaging. In this example, bubble wrap has been used to protect this Nintendo DS, shipped in its original box.
Item with replaced paper
If an item is returned to us that is missing the original packaging material, we will add our own packaging material.

Repackaged in Amazon brown box

When we say re-boxed, we mean a new shipping box with new packaging materials if necessary.
camcorder repackaged
We will reuse the original packaging if possible, adding our own packaging material to fill the void.
backpack repacked
Some items do not need interior packaging to be repacked. In this example we are shipping a backpack that needs no interior packaging.
TV repackaged
If the original box is too damaged to make the trip to the next customer, we'll replace the box and the interior packaging. In this case we've re-boxed this TV in a new box.
