I looked into a few well known tablets out there, but because I am going to school this seemed like a great choice. I loved that it came with word, power point, and one note. I loved that it is powerful enough to watch Netflix... I loved that it has a usb port making it compatible with usb keyboards, usb flash drives, and the like. This tablet has a nice big screen and its bright too. The keyboard is great to type on, and understands what I'm trying to type well. It also can keep up just fine when I have 20 different tabs open. For how small the speakers are I was surprised at how much, and clear the sound is on the surface Rt. I love how small and portable it is and I have used it many times in class. Its web capabilities are wonderful. I was ... full review
------------------------------------------------------- IMPORTANT UPDATE as of November 28: The FULL version of MS-Office is now available for download. Go to the "Control Panel" in the Desktop folder (accessible via the desktop file manager). Click on "System and Security." Then choose "Install optional updates." There you will see the full update to MS-Office, which runs much quicker, I've found.
As a college professor, I rely heavily on programs like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. I also have to juggle multiple email addresses--one for colleagues, one for students and, when time allows, a personal account. Because I often like to use coffee shops as my office, I've owned numerous portable PCs over the years--from laptops to netbooks and, most recently, tablets. In fact, I'm embarrassed to confess that I've owned almost every type of tablet computer that has hit the market--the iPad 2, the ... full review
"Functional, Fun, Durable & Gorgeous! The More I Use It, The More I LIKE It." - By Carrie (Midwest)
I've had my Surface for a little over 6 months, and the more I use it, the more I really, really like it. I wanted a tablet on which I could both surf & work, so waited in anticipation of the Surface. All in all, the Surface has not disappointed me.
I purchased my Surface in a Microsoft store, but realize that Microsoft doesn't have many store locations, so here is how I came about deciding that the Surface was the machine for me - someone who wants a 10" screen, wants to be able to surf the internet & open multiple screens, but also wants to be able to use the Tablet for creating documents & showing them in presentations/meetings:
RT versus PRO: There was/is a lot of media ink about RT versus PRO, so I really had to wade through the articles to decide what would ... full review
Simply awesome. However, I would wait for the Surface Pro which comes out late Jan 2013. The Pro will be compatible with all your existing windows software (i.e. quicken, turbotax, money, books, etc) so no reinvestment there. Don't get the touch cover - get the type cover instead - it is tactile.
To tell you the truth after watching/reading tons of news and tech snidbits, windows 8 and the surface pro will become the tablet sales leader by late 2014 or early 2015. Why - Office 2013 ProPlus, legacy PC app support, Skype integration and live video calling, windows phone 8 (nokia 920-bestest phone bar none-Nokia sold 4.4 million 920s Windows 8 Phone in 6 weeks!!!! - ru seeing the bigger picture yet?), intel chipset, and oh yes...the xbox 720 comes out with illumiroom this year with direct integration from your surface pro as an ... full review

"Quit comparing surface stuff to ipads" - By Amazon Customer (South Carolina)
My opinion is that this product is excellent for its purposes. I read the negative reviews and I instantly know that most of the people that rated it negatively dont really know what they are doing. First and foremost to the reviewer that complained because there are a lack of apps, and it isnt as good as an ipad ..... I was not aware that ipad made a magnetic keyboard pad and futhurmore that this mysterious keyboard has apps. Please before posting a negative review take a second before spilling said hate and be sure youre in the right place. I believe you were trying to review the actual Surface tablet. With that being said if you buy a surface expecting an ipad you deserve to be hit over the head with the affore mentioned purchase. An ipad is a tablet and a tablet ... full review
I'm pretty happy with this case. It fits well and is pretty decent quality wise. A real bargain. I would change one thing however, and that would be to allow a little more room around the border of the touch screen as it makes some of the "swipe in" gestures a little difficult to execute.
"amazing addition to a surface tablet" - By M. Bauer (Colorado)
I'm a full-size keyboard fan and was skeptical that this Type Cover would come anywhere near the form and functionality of a standard keyboard. I was wrong. It has a great tactile feel and you can touch type very quickly and accurately.
I didn't encounter the need to use it on a completely smooth surface that another reviewer mentioned, although it would be difficult to balance your Surface on your lap do much typing. Truly works like a mini-laptop when you use the kickstand and set it on a relatively flat surface. Touch pad has a good feel to it as well (and you can always attach a mini or full-sized mouse to the Surface usb port if you like).
I'm a big amazon fan, but the price listed here is substantially inflated. I was able to get this for $60 less than the price ... full review
