"Great sturdy workhorse" - By Darkenmoon (Chicago, IL)
I received this for Christmas and I love it. I would say my sewing skill is about intermediate. I wanted a machine that would be good for where I am currently, grow with me some, but also be affordable. After much research, this was the one I wanted. My mom surprised me with it.
This was an upgrade from an old Singer Touch and Sew 600e. This machine won't ever be as sturdy as that baby, but it's a really nice replacement... and at any rate, I don't think any machine you'd buy these days would be that sturdy. However, this machine is AWESOME.
The bobbin was easy to wind. It is easy to thread. It has memory of your needle position. This thing doesn't take fiddling and is extremely easy to work with. I like to make ... full review
This is the only Serger I've owned/used. I really don't find it that difficult to thread, especially with the long tweezers that came with it. I watched the Singer DVD which showed how the thread needed to be on the lower Looper and that helped. I also agree that the tension is a challenge but I have success if I adjust beforehand on scraps of the project material. In it's defense, I serge at top speed, never had a needle break (you can order them off the Singer site - all kinds and styles), never had the thread break - used many brands, and think it does a nice job of trimming and sewing. I guess for my needs, which are seams and finishing raw edges, it is just fine for the job. As another reviewer suggested I would list this as on the "heavy ... full review
"Convenient but needs a stop button" - By J. Smith (Michigan)
My bobbin rewind broke on my Singer and since everything else works on it and I love my machine, I didn't want to be without it waiting for a part. I happened upon the SideWinder and thought at first it seemed expensive, but it was cheaper than a repair on my machine so I bought it. It works. I haven't had it long so I can't speak for it's longevity but it does work quickly. My only negative is that you push the button to turn it on, but you can't push the button to turn it off. The machine stops automatically when the bobbin is full. But what if you don't want a full bobbin, then you have to either pull the plug or remove the batteries - very inconvenient. So, I would have given it a five if they would have made ... full review
Have been sewing since I was 8 years old and have owned Singer sewing machines. Purchased this new for my mom, who is 90 years young. Love this machine because it is heavy duty, sews 1100 stitches per minute and is easy for her to operate. I own tnree Singer sewing machines, and two sergers. My mom loves hers and quilts on it almost every day. Shopped around and found that Amazon offered the best price for this product. If you are looking for a great machine..easy to operate, has weight to it, suggest you purchase this one from AMAZON, of course. I definitely will be purchasing from them again...
I've been sewing on the Quantum Stylist for about 10 days now. I purchased the machine mainly for quilt piecing and free motion quilting. I have a Viking Designer SE that I use for regular sewing and embroidery. I knew the Singer wasn't going to come close to the Viking in many areas BUT for the price of $330 this machine has pleasantly surprised me. It sews very smoothly and straight. It has a nice sound when sewing, not whiny or clunky at all. It stops on a dime, exactly where you want it to. I've stitched out all the stitches and all the buttonholes, all are great. I don't care for the alphabets, they aren't that pretty but would be good for making quilt back labels and the like. I love the slide on table that came with the machine, nice to have if I take ... full review
"Buy a Janome" - By Mary E (Rapid City, SD United States)
I have had Wards, Sears, Bernina, and Janome sewing machines. My Janomes have been my favorites. They make a wonderful tight stitch. They are easy to use, quite and smooth. This one is very nice. I purchased it through Amazon as a reconditioned machine. It is new. Everything is flawless. I use it to take to quilt guild for piecing. My 8 year old granddaughter has been learning to sew on it. She loves the decorative stitches. It is simple to operate and any level sewer can use well. I would buy it again.
I am new to sewing and I am IN LOVE with this machine. My first projects were blankets and with this machine I got it done in a snap. I cant wait til I get a bit better at sewing so I can use the Flower stitch on this machine. I would highly reccommend this machine to anyone.
"Great machine!" - By R. Smith (Huntsville, Al United States)
The Janome 2212 is a great sewing machine, especially for beginners and those who are looking for a less complicated machine. When we set out to find a sewing machine, we wanted to find one that met four criteria: A.) It had to be affordable. We did not have several hundred dollars to invest in a sewing machine. B.) We wanted it to be mechanical. Computerized machines are nice, but they tend to break down more often and are more complicated to use. A good mechanical machine with a metal body will last a lifetime; once the computer breaks down in a computerized machine, it's done for. (Some of them can be fixed, but it's cheaper to buy a new machine.) C.) The machine had to be dependable. D.) We wanted a machine that could be used for quilting and other projects that require several layers. Too many of the ... full review
