"Excellent Drawing Pad!" - By JoeB (Vero Beach, FL)
I'm glad I ignored the negative reviews about the PenPad. One of the cons in this site is that the pen "comes apart in several pieces" when the barrels are separated to replace the battery. The pen I received consisted of just 3 pieces. The lower barrel where the nib and the electronics are housed, the screw-on upper barrel, and a piece (spacer) that slips into the upper barrel. Installing the AAA battery is actually quite straightforward.
Another con was written about the extremely short life of the battery. I did not install the battery that came with my pad but installed a Sunbeam alkaline battery, the kind that is sold in packs of 4 for $1.00 US. These batteries are rated at 1200 mA Hr. The actual current draw of the pen that came with my pad is 0.12mA under all conditions of ... full review
[[VIDEOID:mo348S2D1KP5BL4]]I'd gladly give this case 5 stars if not the price. Should really be around $30. It fits the Fire HD like a glove, leaving all ports, microphone, etc. exposed for easy access. It's solid, well built, and as a nice bonus, when flipped fully open with the flap all the way flush to the back, but would be even better if it would attach to the back somehow and stay there. It has a magnetic latch when closed, so it does not open when you don't needed for it to be opened. The edges of the case and inside is plastic that is robber coated, so it gives a great feel. The stand position is very unstable but can be used for watching a movie.
I use mine as an e-reader with some light web browsing and gaming. I have had mine for a week now and the tablet works fine for those purposes. The battery charge lasts about 3 hours if I only read books. Playing games or watching videos obviously depletes it faster.
The Google Play store works fine. This was a concern for me coming in as I have read complaints on another site from many users about this aspect. Perhaps I got a newer tablet with updated firmware as I did not have to flash the rom to have Google Play working.
As with any devices with low memory, your experience will be better if you avoid running a lot of programs at the same time. I downloaded a tasks closer app, so I could better control that. Running idle with only ... full review
It is still a 5 star for me because it is light and fits perfectly so I can touch the whole screen. The only thing that may be a problem to others, not me. is that since it is held close by the pressure of the leather latch it is harder to open then many other cases. but if you work the latch it loosens a little, not a lot. and you can pull on the whole cover to open the case not the latch. There are no parts to break so you do not have to worry about pulling hard on the cover. I like it the way it is because the cover never flaps open.
I purchased this case to carry my new Kindle Fire HD around at work. It provides excellent protection with a fashionable and functional design. The inside is soft leather and the outside is well made and looks good. It folds nicely into an adjustable Kindle Fire stand for viewing which is proving to be much more useful than I anticipated.
I set this up next to my pc sound system that contains 4 small speakers and two sub woofers and the sound quality was comparable..very impressive for the small size...I HIGHLY recommend this "power pack of sound" to anyone for just about anything..
I usually don't bother to post reviews but this one had to go up..
"Well contructed and designed, except for the port access issue" - By PB
Thickness: will add an extra .49" to your tablet's overall thickness Weight: 1 lb 1 oz
Yes, it adds weight and bulk, but I rather have it to protect the tablet from accidental bumps, scratches and drops, especially when my 4 yr old kid is playing with it. The case fits nice and snug. The only issue I have is that while the tablet is in this case, it's somewhat difficult to open the cover to the USB, HDMI ports, you have to really dig into it with your finger.
UPDATE 8/10/2011 After using it for about 10 days, I found that I rather use the tablet without this case, since I mostly use the tablet at home only. Don't need the extra protection and that the case makes the tablet feel too thick, the tablet feels so much thinner and lighter without this case. If the tablet ... full review
