"A lot of fun, but easily broken" - By The Patriot (N Attleboro, MA United States)
On the fun scale, this is a 10 out of 5. The kids love it.
Don't let the age recommendation fool you, when we bought our first one (I'll get to that later), my son was 3 and loved it. He had no problem jumping on the pump with 2 feet and getting a good launch.
The base of the product is a bit of a pain. It doesn't stand up on it's own very well, and I like to secure it to my lawn with a few landscape stakes.
The wing nut that holds the launcher up is also annoying as it's constantly loosening and the launcher keeps falling to a lower angle. I recently took the advice of another reviewer and tied a rubber band around the launcher and the base to help hold the launcher in place. It's works ... full review
Think of this as the Legos approach to wiring. We've bought two for two boys here (I'm trying to draw out the girl...) and are considering a trade-up for the boy who methodically did ALL of the experiments. I grew up with the little jumper wire and spring terminal kits which do not provide anywhere near as appealing and understandable a layout and were much harder to work with and troubleshoot. Contrariwise, is hard to improvise with the fixed shape of the components and connectors, but that's not really important for this age group. Pieces do of course get lost, but how much can you ask of the little darlings (don't flush them!!!).
One quibble, more a problem with the next larger kit: I think they cheat claiming the kit supports XXX [30-750] different projects. Many projects are subtle enough variations on what ... full review
I got this to have some fun in the oiffice and the minute I got it assembled the wars over the cubicle walls started!! This product is easy to assemble, and a great simple way to have fun! The suction cups attach it to your desk easily and it has a decent range, I have gotten twenty feet out of it. I tried further but kept hitting everything in the office. Bottom line, inexpensive fun, and a conversation piece that has all of my fellow employees jealous.
This is a really great and fun toy. My kids love it and keep playing with it. Even after Christmas, this is one they come back too many times. Even adults will enjoy this toy and play it with their child!
I've bought a few of these for kids in my family, and they all enjoy it very much! I mentioned this in another review for a 2-pack. Some people say the bow "strings" that are rubberband-like break easy, so we stretch them both slowly and in a straight line so the elastic properties break in evenly and one half of the "string" doesn't stretch significantly more at the draw than the farther half. The kids were also told to not to keep it outside or in direct sunlight. They are all careful not to stretch it with too much force, and they still can shoot the arrows very far compared to what they were expecting based on other toys. Their bows have all actually lasted several months!!
My kids are 2 and 5 years old, and we started family game night at the beginning of the year. After my husband and I were bored to tears with the little kid's games or the kids were frustrated with older games, I went in search of games for everyone. Surely there had to be games outside of hunger hippo! A game for everyone ages 2 to 200. I adore melissa and doug. Everything they make works so well for my family! I saw this and ordered it immediately.
My 2 year is very construction inclined and my 5 year old loves being good at any game or the best. They took to it immediately! Once the 2 year found out it could fall, he spent a couple rounds purposefully knocking it down but aftef that he did so well. The two of them will play it by themselves. ... full review
I bought this remote controlled helicopter a few days ago for my son who is 6. It is a really cool toy. It is amazing to see it fly and maneuver around the house. It charges for about 40 minutes and flies for about 8 minutes on a charge. It requires skill to fly and is actually challenging, which makes it fun and interesting. My son is too young to really play with it properly so we play with it together. It is pretty sturdy, however, you will end up damaging it over time. There is only so many times that you can crash it before it gets damaged. A small piece of decorative plastic cracked from the tail section which I taped back together. I wouldn't count this against the product because I crashed it repeatedly without significantly damaging it. I will probably have to buy some spare parts ... full review
I'm using this kit in my classroom - the students are having a great time with the experiments. As a teacher, I love the "interesting facts" and the vocabulary. My kids at home want me to get one for them, too. Fun, hands-on learning that grab kids' attention.
"Brilliant idea, mediocre execution" - By Patrick Gavin (Arcata, CA USA)
This Perplexus ball is a well thought out toy for the most part. It is a three dimensional obstacle course encased within a clear plastic bubble. One must manipulate the thing to move a small metal ball along a mostly singular path. The plane of motion shifts frequently and dramatically which makes the act of moving the ball along very gratifying. It appears that the designer made some last minute changes to the overall scheme by putting a barrier in front of an obvious path instead of eliminating any indications of a path. The difficulty of obstacles tends to increase as you go on, but there is one section in the middle that is particularly difficult compared with later obstacles.
The path is labeled with numbers from 1 to 100, but these numbers are extremely difficult to see because they are very shallow embossings on the plastic. The path ... full review
"My kids love the Gator!" - By Marie2375 (Baltimore, MD)
We bought this toy for my son's fourth birthday in April of 2008. He has used it for the last year or so with no problems. This toy has driven through sand (BAD idea, but didn't kill it), water, on carpet, concrete and vinyl flooring. It does not do well on grass. The remote has been submerged twice. We took it apart, dried it out and it works fine. The Gator has been dropped on concrete and down the stairs. It still works. The weakest part has been the string antenna on the car itself. Our toddler ripped it right out. Now you have to stand pretty close to the car to make it go. This car does float in water. We drove it through the swimming pool this weekend.
One word of caution, if you have more than one morphibian, they can't be used at the same ... full review
