"Works great with Qwest / Centurylink" - By Curtis (Denver, CO)
When my GT784WN showed up, I called Centurylink to get my account name/password. The rep was friendly and when I told her the modem was not purchased through them she told me what settings to use to make it work (pppoe, VPI at 0, and VCI at 32). She was even going to walk me through setting it up, but I didn't need my hand held.
It took ~5 min to change the settings in the modem and reboot, then it connected and worked perfectly. The wifi has good coverage throughout the house, and fast speeds. I have had it for almost a week and have not had to reboot yet.
I checked the firmware when it came in, and it already had the latest version.
Very pleased with this purchase. The built-in router with wifi eliminates the need of having a ... full review
"Instant favorite router! - Fast and easy to use." - By J. Haggard (Nashville, TN)
I'm an IT guy, been working with computers for over 15 years and have had a number of routers. I always fell back on Linksys routers, I've tried Buffalo brand and others but Linksys was always the reliable go to brand. Well, I've had 2 linksys routers in the past year that had to be replaced. The first one died after many solid months of performance. I reached out for support and got no response. I couldn't go without a router so I bought a buffalo router, it worked sort of but was overly complex, it went back and I bought a new Linksys (Cisco) N router, it's been working fine for a few months and suddenly my wireless devices started to disconnect randomly. Long story short after a lot of troubleshooting and attempts to get service with no response from Linksys/Cisco I gave in and decided to get a ... full review
"Great Modem works with Comcast" - By Falcon (Texas, USA)
Bottom line: this is a great modem and it works with Comcast. Comcast just doesn't have its act together. This modem is not only on their approved list, it has a three star rating, which, according to Comcast, is "the highest and most thorough level of testing." When the cable installer got here (I got a new line installed), he said that this modem was NOT on the Comcast list. Since I still had my DSL line working, I showed him that not only did Comcast approve the modem but that Comcast thoroughly tested it. He had to call the "office" to activate the internet service. The "office" didn't want to set up internet service for this modem; the "office" stated that this wasn't an approved modem. Well, he recalled the "office" and got someone else and they set up the ... full review
"Not for the timid or uninformed" - By R.B. (South)
The SBG6580 can actually be a niece all-in-one device if you have the patience and know-how to get it configured right.
First off, there is a feature called 'IP Flood Detection' that needs to be disabled. (It is located under the Firewall page) By default, it is turned ON. When ON, this feature eventually causes everything to slow to a crawl. Turn it OFF (uncheck box) and you will never go slow again. This is certainly a failing on Motorola's part to default a poor-functioning feature ON in the first place.
I would agree that Motorola's interface is clunky in general. It is pretty powerful too and advanced users will be able to do most of what they want with it.
My carrier is Comcast and I enjoy real-word DL speeds of up to 4MBps (32mbps). Admittedly, with many of ... full review
after I tried and failed attempt to buy this modem from amazon (its ok amazon made up for it) I ended up buying it from another website. it works great. movie streaming is great.
1 important thing I have figured out is that if you use TWC they will try to sneak you. they will peg your speed at 10mb until you notice it and contact them then they will say everything looks normal on their end and you test your speed again and its fine or they blame your modem. when they fix the issue they will leave it for a day or 2 and limit your speed again. they do this because you used your own modem and not theirs. they will try to blame the modem but it magically starts working right when you call them out on it. they do this for 2 reasons. 1) ... full review
"TP-Link is an outstanding Router/ TD-W8960N" - By Patrick Green (Seattle, WA)
Perfect router for DSL use. I have Qwest and wasn't happy with the wireless-g that came standard. Tried upgrading to wireless-N using a Trendnet ADSL wireless router, but was greatly disappointed with its performance. Range was even less than the wireless-G, and it would require a reboot at least once a week. Often, it would be every other day.
With my wife nagging me each time she lost connectivity, even once a week was too much for that, I decided to try another type of router. Enter the TP-Link. Luckily, I found this while searching the internet, since the router had very good reviews from just about everyone who has tried on their system.
Out of the box, everything was there. Removed the POS Trendnet and hooked the TP-Link up to the system. Fortunately, I had a the settings for Qwest written down, so setup was easy. Worked ... full review

"Works great with all my wireless devices" - By SAlmanza
I am using the adsl for 3+ weeks now. Set-up was fairly easy, I am not an expert, but have set-up routers before. Wireless connection is good, Netflix HD streaming is without any lags. I contacted support for connecting a ATT 4G Beam adapter as a back-up. After some back and forth, apparently the units is only compatible with ATT Sierra LTE adapters. Tough luck, but not a deal breaker in this case. For that I give it 4 starts out of 5.
Recommend for anybody who needs a stable replacement ADSL router. Double-check for if you intend to use LTE or 3G modems.
I read all of the reviews, talked to my very techy son, and decided to get this modem/router despite all the problems posted by others regarding Comcast.
I read everything that came with the unit, and then downloaded the user manual (you can get it off the web by searching for CG3000Dv2 user manual or going to the Netgear site). I'm not particularly tech-savvy, and found the user manual to be somewhat less than user friendly since they wrote it as if you knew what they were talking about. In the end, I found that you really only need it to change your passwords (both to the gateway and for your wifi) to something a bit more memorable and provide a network name (SSIP) so you can identify it easily when trying to connect wireless devices (neither of these are mandatory changes, but I like my own ... full review
"Works great; Simple to set up." - By MT (Phoenix, AZ)
I had no experience with routers at all, and wanted a wireless router to do gaming through xbox live. With no previous experience, you put in the install CD, and it walks you through the steps easily, and it is up and running flawlessly in less than 20 minutes. A few months later, I also hooked up a printer and notebook, each in seconds. Anyone can set this up and attach devices to it. Works well with good range throughout the whole house. Great product. Highly recommended.
