"A formidable tablet and a major improvement" - By Thomas B. Talbot (New Market, MD USA)
I've just upgraded from the Surface RT to the Surface 2 and it was well worth it for me. Previously I upgraded to the Surface from an iPad2. So here is what I've found:
The Surface 2 has been an excellent performer. Besides common tablet tasks like Skype, web browsing, email, kindle books, ebay and a few other things, I've got a complete Microsoft office system that lets me do serious work - not just viewing files but actually creating content and editing documents. The thing runs all day on battery and I'm finding that I can get away from using a computer on trips and go for a full week with my surface 2 without carrying my laptop.
General: Great battery life, its snappy and has a nice screen. I use the original type cover from my old surface which works ... full review

"A great device for 90% of computing scenarios. Recommended for power users, not for your average user though." - By Ger
Paired with the type cover, this is a real beast. This particular SKU which comes with 8GB RAM ensures that you can expect great ultrabook performance this device. It definitely does not disappoint. I wanted a compact device that would keep me from having to bring both a tablet and laptop around for complete productivity, and this does the job admirably.
I use this for taking down notes, typing up documents, making presentations, working on spreadsheets, creating digital art, and even light gaming. I have yet to find something that I do everyday that this device cannot do.
On a usage standpoint though, I find it hard to recommend this product for average users who mostly surf the web or want to play casual games. This device has a much higher learning curve compared to laptops and tablets just because it's somewhere in between, and the pen requires ... full review
"Could Have Been 5 Stars" - By A. Antonio (NH, USA)
Once again Microsoft shot itself in the foot. They made an amazing tablet and then tanked it with poor decisions.
The Surface Pro 2 is a blazingly fast Windows 8.1 tablet / laptop hybrid. This is basically a laptop without a keyboard. It comes with a decent amount of storage compared to some of the other high end tablets which is a nice plus and it's somewhat expandable via a usb hard drive or even an optical drive.
The battery life isn't the best but considering the power packed under the hood that's an acceptable compromise.
The ports are a very nice plus. I know you can technically do almost anything without the ports but I'm lazy. I don't want to use software to try and pass files around and hope everything is synced up. I want to just shove a cable in ... full review
I'm a student and I bought this mainly to carry it to the university, take lecture notes and study at home. Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with it. It's lightweight (2 lbs./900 g, but keep in mind this is basically a full laptop in a small case), powerful, runs every app that my laptop does and the pen is amazingly good, even better than my Wacom Bamboo, mainly because it's lighter and thus less tiring to use.
I installed Office (the new one is already installed, but it's only a trial license) and Visual Studio. They both work well, it doesn't feel slower than a laptop at all.
The only thing I'm not terribly satisfied with is the battery life. Sure, I managed to get 5 1/2 h out of it (Wi-Fi off), but I would have liked at least a couple more for a device so portable.
Guys, look past the refurbished part this is still a Surface 2!! I did not experience the battery problems that some people were having. Straight out the box I put it on the charger, and did not have to update. For $199 it can't get much better than this! Thank you Microsoft!!
After being given an android tablet and an ipad at work, I had began to think that maybe I just didn't care to use a tablet for anything other than light web browsing or the occasional game. Two weeks after getting a Microsoft Surface, I'm sold. After running the OS and app updates (as I do with any new device) I immediately saw the potential of this tablet. First of all, I love that it, running Windows 8 RT, it syncs my settings (IE favorites, etc) with my Windows 8 desktop and laptop. I am a heavy Skydrive user so having that functionality right there built-in in is really nice for me. The gestures and fluid motions of this device really have me hooked. The screen is great and being slightly larger than the ipad is a good thing. It allows you to ... full review
Wow. This goes for $999 brand new, and I bought it for less than half the price just because it's "refurbished"! It came sparkling clean without a scratch or fingerprint on it, in the original box and packaging, as if it was just made in the factory. And it runs as if it's brand new. Thank you so much for this! My husband and I are fighting over it now xD it's just like a PC, you can download stuff outside of the microsoft store which is what we were looking for. I would recommend this wholeheartedly to anyone. Best purchase I've ever made. If you're having doubts about buying this just because it's refurbished, stop, just get it. You'll be so happy you did. Thank you thank you thank you!!!
This is my first Surface tablet, and It's also my first Windows tablet. And it's finally at a price point that I can afford which is why I'm excited to finally give these a try! I picked up the 4GB Ram model, because I normally have about a dozen applications running at any one time and 64GB just won't cut it, particularly when the OS eats up like 20GB by default. I mainly needed a compact Windows machine to work on as I do alot of web development on Windows. One that I could take to work or a coffee shop without needing to bring with me a giant laptop case with an external keyboard and wireless mouse, which is what I do now. The Surface 3 is the perfect size for that. And the 3 position kickstand works just fine on my desk, or on my lap. I'm not ... full review
Likes: 1) Fast 2) Portable 3) Responsive 4) Optional "lighted" keyboard works well with device
Dislikes: 1) Heavy 2) Screen is small (what do you expect for a tablet) 3) Keyboard should come with Surface Pro 2. You should not have to spend extra money on it.
I use it for Microsoft Office (Word and Excel), Dropbox, Neat Scanner, Web Browsing, Email.
When Windows 8.0 came out, I was not a fan of the changes made to the Operating System. With Windows 8.1, they reduced some of my dislikes of the Operating System. I have finally warmed up to it. When Windows 8.0 came out, hardly any apps existed. Now, there are quite a few apps, most the major ones.
The Pen, that comes with it, is a nice touch. However, with such ... full review
"Replacing Laptops for Selected Users" - By 95630 (Folsom, CA United States)
With our current 23-inch monitors and the addition of the optional docking station, this somewhat expensive tablet is proving to be an excellent laptop replacement, but only if your budget will permit the extravagance. When docked, there's really no difference between the maxed-out Surface and a desktop or laptop unless you really need a DVD drive. With an added USB 3.0 hub and an external drive, even that's not a problem. The big plus is that this tablet undocks and becomes a very light and portable laptop. Love it!
