"More Help than Hours Searching Forums, Begging Doctors, and Infinite Internet Research" - By RunawayRenee (AZ, USA)
I am now 3 months out from gallbladder removal. I get more sick and am in more pain as each week passes. Doctors and hospitals have prescribed acid reflux meds and told me to go on a low-fat diet. Websites tell me to stay away from apples, diet books tell me to eats tons of protein. And with every instruction I follow, I get sicker and sicker, and the pain grows worse and worse. My gallbladder attacks were so painful they made me vomit and writhe. Now that I don't have a gallbladder, I have attacks in the same location, only 10x worse than before the surgery. I am also nastily sick to my stomach each and every day, all day. I finally started reading this book, and my husband is reading it as well. I won't lie--to figure out what works best for me, for you, it WILL take ... full review
I'm a physician assistant student and I bought Current as a reference during my clinical year. Yesterday my preceptor told me that I had impressed him so much with my concise knowledge of diseases that he was going to recommend this text to all future students he encounters. Basically, I'm really glad I bought this book! It's almost everything I need to know, and it's presented in an easy to read format.
This book has everything it takes to be considered a really good book. Though the text is quite dense, you can easily understand it. The topics are thoroughly explained, and there is always a good scheme to help understand them. Overall a very good pathology book, which I'm happy to have.
I needed this book for my nursing program and searched for it at my local college book store, but they did not have it. After looking around I actually ended up with a better deal on Amazon. I save about $20 buying it on here versus what the book stores were selling it for and I was able to get free 2 day shipping by signing up for amazon student. I would recommend to nursing students looking for save a few dollars on books.
This is a top medical reference in the alternative medicinal area. The book discusses dietary implications based upon blood types. For instance, Type A is the agrarian which is comfortable with grains and livestock. Blood type B people require a balanced diet of meat and dairy. (B-Antigen) Type AB is the modern man with an inherited tolerance of AB with enhanced abilities to manufacture more antibodies. (A & B antigen) The blood type is key to the immune system. Blood type 0 persons have no antigens. (Anti-A and Anti-B antibodies) Type B people may have milk ; whereas, Type A people tend to have systems which agglutinate and reject it. The author mentions an Indican urine scale for bowel putrification; wherein, the liver and intestines do not metabolize proteins. Instead; they produce indols- toxic byproducts on the Indican Scale. Foods with toxic Indicans should be avoided. i.e. Bologna ... full review
"One the the best resources for digestive health and optimum wellness!" - By Dr. Sandra Scheinbaum (Highland Park, Illinois USA)
This easy to read guidebook is a wonderful resource that provides everything you need to know to "heal the gut.". Dr. Lipski's advice works, as it's based on scientific research as well as wellness teachings that have been around for hundreds of years. As a functional medicine practitioner, I keep a copy of this book in my office and recommend it to all my patients who suffer not only from digestive disturbances, but from inflammation, chronic pain or emotional issues.
Great informational book regarding pathophysiology. I bought it for a college course and have done well learning from the book even though I can only take so much information in one sitting. The writing is at a professional level and to the point. Good illustrations assist understanding of material.
I love this book and all the resources you get with it. I have had other books in prior semesters and this is the first one that has normal findings outlined and abnormal, because for me I have to understand what's normal before i understand why something is not normal. It's got a lot of information in it and it takes awhile to get it all to sink in but overall its very informative. I recommend registering the book and getting the additional resources, the quizzes can help a lot along with the audio key points if your an auditory learner, the lady is monotone though.
"Can an excellent publication get any better?" - By KEVIN C. DELAHANTY (Newburyport, MA United States)
In the case of The Merck Manual, the answer is a resounding yes. I would encourage those who keep Harrison's/Cecil's in one location (eg: office) to have The Merck Manual in another (eg: home). The editors have done a wonderful job in re-formatting the entries so that you can get a concise (< 50 word) review of a topic, & then proceed into a longer discussion.
