"Complex, Brutal, Smart And Sophisticated--A Fantasy Epic Geared Toward Adults Proves HBO Does It Best" - By K. Harris (StudioCityGuy33 at Yahoo dot com)
Few shows have been more eagerly awaited than the arrival of HBO's adaptation of George R.R. Martin's masterful and massive epic "Game of Thrones" (the first in a series). As the books have progressed, however, faithful followers have cried foul as promises have yet to be delivered. But no matter where you stand in that controversy, there is little debate to the majesty and quality of the novel "Thrones"--an almost instant classic in the adult fantasy genre. Multi-layered and ambitious, this sprawling tale charts a powerful story of intrigue, political machinations, and violence amidst the brutal landscape of a nation divided. It is not a production you could approach half-heartedly. To do justice to the novel's intricacies required a massive cast, extensive period sets and costumes, lavish effects and a focused and intelligent screenplay. Well, creators David Benioff (a top notch novelist himself--check out City of Thieves) and D.B. Weiss ... full review
I would like to preamble this review with a disclaimer: I had never been a huge fan of C&C. I always preferred Age of Empires, Total Annihilation, Dark Reign, or Heroes of Might and Magic, although many of my friends kept on raving about the great C&C games. Turns out, I may have missed out back then.
Since great RTS games have become rare when compared to the mid 90s to early 2000s, I have been looking to relive some of the glory days of RTS, by buying games that I never got around to playing. I picked this up when it was on the $29.99 sale ($49.99 seems extremely steep and the games can be found cheaper in other places, just as previous reviewers have noted). The installation was easy. I had no issues with Windows 7 64-bit (applying admin mode and XP compatibility or 95 compatibility should ... full review
I stumbled across this book w/a link to Amazon after embracing savvy shopping tactics. With the economy doing so poorly and work limited, I needed to make some changes in the way I shopped for groceries. This book takes you a step beyond coupon clipping by introducing the ins and outs of sweepstake participation that food manufacturers employ to produce brand loyalty, and who could not use $100 grocery gift certificate to supplement their income right now! All it takes it a computer, internet connection as well as persistence and commitment and that free trip to Europe, $25,000 car, or the $5000 grocery gift card is within your grasp. Good luck!
The most important part...my two sons LOVE IT!! I can't wait to give this to them for Christmas. I showed my 3 1/2 yr old and my 18month old the trailer the night before and they were glued to the TV. I took my 3 1/2 year old to see it the next day. It was only his second movie theater experience--the first was the most recent Ice Age movie and we left because he could care less about Ice Age. But he knows the Cars movies by heart, and he can relate to them. He sat through the entire movie, quietly, enthralled in it! I didn't take the little one because I was afraid he wouldn't be able to sit through it-- I wish I would have. Now they both love anything related to Planes. Lil one asks EVERY DAY to watch the trailer on my phone--over, and ... full review
I never used it to charge my phone from 35% yet. I have been using it at work around lunch time when the battery level drops to 84%. I am using this portable charger with my Samsung Epic 4G Touch (Samsung Galaxy S II). I call it "The Mighty Mouse Charger" because it is small, very portable but it is powerful at 5600mAH. The price is nice. I showed it to people they thought it cost more than the $49 I paid for it.
This portable charger charges at the same rate as the AC charger that comes with the phone. I can take this charger everywhere I go, it can be placed in a pants pocket with a lot of room to spare. The Samsung Epic 4G Touch has a battery life of 12 to 13 for medium use. I am a heavy user, I use the internet, ... full review
This game uses tiles in a manner similar to dominoes, with placement suggestive of Scrabble with its possibilities of blocking or making way, and like Set, it demands recognition of patterns and colors.
Great inter-generational game as well as one that can be fiercely competitive among peers.
I love true stories, especially (I admit it) feel-good stories. Sports books aren't my favorite genre, so if they aren't yours either, don't let that stop you. This was a quick read, too, easy to finish in a single evening.
Bernstein was an American sports agent who launched a reality show in cricket-crazed India to discover someone with enough potential to become a major league baseball player, because he's become disillusioned by the young talent in the US. He's lucky enough to find three and is able to bring two of them back. Million Dollar Arm tells that story. It's currently being made into a movie.
Minor quibble:The POVs of Dinesh and Rinku were missing; their perspective would have added a lot to the story, especially on events near the end. I realize they didn't author the book, but if they had written even a few paragraphs in ... full review
Drake and Josh will have you literally laughing till you cry. The witty, and silly step-brothers always have a hilarious adventure in each episode. You'll find yourself tapping the "next episode" button on the screen. ;-) Enjoy!
