I'm new to slr digital photography and this lens is just what I needed. I've bought a couple of other lenses and this one is probably going to be my favorite. I just received it today and have already had some fun with it. My husband and I are going to a preserve this weekend and I hope to use this and my other lenses a lot! Thanks so much for the great product and the super fast delivery. Not to mention the extras that came with it.
"Takes excellent pictures and gets out of the way while doing it" - By Macauley86 (California, United States)
This Nikon D3100 is a phenomenal deal for non professionals, the rest of us people that want to take family and travel shots. I've owned DSLRs since 2004, starting with a Nikon D70 and then moving to D40, D200 and [[ASIN:B0012YA85A Canon Digital Rebel XSi 12.2 MP Digital SLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens (Black)]] and [[ASIN:B000V5P90K Canon EOS 40D 10.1MP Digital SLR Camera (Body Only)]]. Those are all excellent cameras, but this Nikon D3100 is better than all of those in one crucial area, the area that matters: it takes excellent pictures without having to fiddle with the settings between shots. Yes, the other cameras are better in other respects: They have more buttons to change settings without delving into menus, they are bigger (is that a plus?), heavier (another plus?), and have better specs (1/500 flash sync speed for D70 and D40), but in the end ... full review
Discovered I had bought the wrong kit so I sent an email to eCost. They had wonderful customer service and sent me an adaptor for free even though it was my mistake. Haven't had a chance to use this kit yet with the adapter but very pleased with this company.
"Shoot like a pro for 1/2 the price" - By John Odell (Semmes,Alabama)
I am a professional photographer, trained by the military to shoot under the worst conditions and get a usable image. Comfort, lightweight and reliability are the top requirement meant for me in a camera. Image quality is of course the top priority. The D3200 has each of these and then some. My equipment that I own range from 35mm Pentax K1000 to the Nikon F1. I shoot anything that moves and everything that doesn't, with abundant light or none at all. I usually carry around $4000 in equipment wherever I go. I saw the D3200 and it's features and took a chance buying it, not knowing the quality I would get but if worse came to worse, one of my daughters would get it if it failed to meet my standards. I still have it. As a matter of fact, I gave my D7000 to my daughter and kept the ... full review
I compared this to the Nikon 18-200 VR: 1) The 18-135 is lighter and nicely balanced in handling, when mounted on the light bodies (like D-40). The 18-200 VR is much too heavy for the slight added zoom range. 2) The build quality is better than the 18-200. I got an 18-200 from the Japan factory, and it had dirt inside, inbetween lens elements! The 18-135 came perfectly clean. 3) The 18-135 has a smooth zoom barrel. While the 18-200VR has a horribly grinding zoom barrel, which sounds like it's got sand in it. 4) The zoom barrel stays put in any position, while the 18-200 does not stay in place (if you hold it vertical, it starts drifting - a LOT). 5) The focus speed is Much Faster than the 18-200. If you think this is slow, wait till you spend $ 700 for the 18-200 and have to ... full review
"Great lens for a great price!" - By adamr368 (Medford Lakes, NJ)
Feeling limited by my 18-135 lens I began looking into zoom lenses. A friend of mine has the Nikon 70-300 VR which is an amazing lens but substantially out of my price range as well. I debated saving up for the Nikon lens but after much consideration I decided to give this one a shot since it was within my budget and would get me that extra distance. I am using this lens with my D40x and the pictures I have taken have been crystal clear. I am extremely satisfied with this lens and it has performed well above my expectations.
I have been very impressed with this lens over the past 3 months. There was a special on Amazon that gave you some $ off if you purchased a Nikon d5100 and this lens as a pair so I jumped on it. The lens has already been with me to 3 countries and has been great.
Build: Yes, this lens has a lot of plastic. This saves you a lot of weight and money. If you want it to be made of metal spend 3x as much buying a pro Nikon lens. Don't buy this one and then complain it feels cheap. The mount is metal which I believe is an upgrade over the 55-200mm Nikon.
Optics: Really can't complain here. Shooting at around f/6-f/8 has produced great images at any zoom. The colors are great, distortion is small and ... full review
I got this kit after using my brother in laws fisheye and wide angle lenses. I had so much fun with them that I bought my own as soon as we got home from vacation. I had been looking at different lenses, this kit came with everything that I wanted and was a great price. Not only was I looking for the lenses I also was looking in to getting a polarizing filter as well to help protect my Nikon lenses from the sun. I could not be any happier with this kit.
