With the success of Apocalypse Now , Francis Ford Coppola looked to reinvent how movies were made. The vehicle was as audacious as any in his career: a musical crafted by blending old-time studio filmmaking with cutting edge technology. The result is one of the most talked-about films of the 1980s, One from the Heart. A note from Francis Coppola:

I was always fascinated by technology and gadgets. During the filming of One from the Heart, we built ourselves a new kind of film studio, availing ourselves of some of the new equipment that was just emerging... networked personal computers for word processing, videotape editing systems controlled by computers, all "far-out" stuff in 1981. We coined the term "the Electronic Cinema" to describe what we were aiming for.

The problem we always had with One from the Heart was overcoming all of the bad press and premature criticism that we endured before the film was finished, filtered through the entertainment media. It seems appropriate to me now that we can take advantage of some of the fabulous technology available today, like the personal computer, the Internet, and retailers like Amazon.com, to reach out directly to the public. Perhaps the film will at last find an audience.
