Capote:
In Limited Release September
30In New York City, he was the ultimate insider, but
away from the city, he was on the outside looking in. In
November, 1959, Truman Capote (Philip Seymour Hoffman) finds himself intrigued
by an article telling of the murders of four members of a well-known farm
family, the Clutters, in Holcomb, Kansas. The story presents the opportunity,
he believes, to test his long-held theory that, in the hands of the right
writer, non-fiction can become as compelling as fiction. Convincing The
New Yorker
to give him an assignment, he sets out for Kansas with his
childhood friend, Harper Lee (Catherine Keener), who is about to become famous
for To Kill a Mockingbird
. When the killers are caught in Las
Vegas and returned to Kansas, Capote visits them and befriends them, even as
they are tried and sentenced to die. And his magazine article soon grows into a
book, one that could rank with the greatest in modern literature: In
Cold Blood
.
