Question
I just purchased the Asus RT-N56U and I've been having issues making calls with Facetime to my family who own's iPads & iPhone 4s. I'm currently running 1.0.1.4 Firmware 5/4/11 (most recent) and when I call via Facetime my family answers the call but it never connects. However, if I connect hardwire via Cable Modem, I get through and they can answer my call; everything works great.

I called Asus support, they asked me to update the router's firmware & we even tried turning off the Firewall...but nothing worked. I also put in manually the port forwarding numbers Apple has suggested for Facetime...no dice.

So anyone else having these issues or has got this to work with the RT-N56U? Any input would be helpful. Might consider returning the router back to Amazon if no solutions arise. Thinking about Cisco router to replace, anyone tried Facetime with the Cisco routers?

Thanks in Advance.
Answer
Dear Valued Customers,

Please make sure port forwarding is set up with the RT-N56u. These are the following ports required for facetime.
443 (TCP)
3478 through 3497 (UDP)
5223 (TCP)
16384 through 16387 (UDP)
16393 through 16402 (UDP)

In your router's GUI, go to Advance setting > WAN > Virtual Server.
Enter the ports in this manner:

S/N: Facetime |P/R: 443 |L IP: 192.168.1.# | L/P: 443 |Protocol: TCP
S/N: Facetime |P/R: 5223 |L IP: 192.168.1.# | L/P: 5223 |Protocol: TCP
S/N: Facetime |P/R: 3478:3497 |L IP: 192.168.1.# | L/P: 3478 |Protocol: UDP
S/N: Facetime |P/R: 16384:16387 |L IP: 192.168.1.# | L/P: 16384 |Protocol: UDP
S/N: Facetime |P/R: 16393:16402 |L IP: 192.168.1.# | L/P: 16393 |Protocol: UDP

Your Local IP will the be IP Address assigned to your Facetime device. We recommend using a static IP.
