DSL is two wire so I presume that is what you are referring to. A modem is what connects to your wall jack. It does not do routing, it just converts the signal coming into your house, a digital electrical signal in the case of DSL, a radio frequency on a wire in the case of cable, to ethernet. You plug a router into the DSL or cable modem. Think of the modem as just a media signal converter. A router, in most cases, including this one, a router and a switch in the same box, provide much more intelligence and capability. If I have understood your question, YES, the ASUS RT-AC66U Dual Band Wireless Gigabit router will be a easy to connect to your modem. Leave the modem connected to the wall, but power it off. Connect an ethernet cable (in the box) from the router's WAN port, it is the one with the blue label with the world image stamped on it, to the DSL or cable modem. Then power on your DSL or cable modem and then when it has all its lights blinking, plug the power wire into the router. The Quick Start has drawings that are easily followed. There is nothing about your two wire DSL or cable modem that relates to the "Dual Band" on this router. The router's dual band is just the radio frequencies on which it broadcasts. You can use 2.4 Gigahertz (Ghz), which can be crowded if you live in multifamily housing, and 5 (Ghz). You should change the password, but you can use the default settings just fine. With this router, the blazing fastest speed is 5Ghz only. But that may not matter: you cannot go faster than your slowest link, which is usually your Internet access provider's network.
