I'm going to my family's for yet another boring Thanksgiving day dinner, Any ideas to make it more enjoyable/interactive? The majority of us are middle aged adults. Thanks!

Wine, red or white. I prefer white out of a coffee mug. Soon enough, not boring, you just don't care anymore.

Host it yourself. Then you'll be too busy to be bored.

Start running round the house shouting i can't see i can't see. That'll amuse you and them for a little while :)

Do you like games? My husband and I adored to play trivia games. Bring one along. I like the Tower of Trivia

Or one of those dreadful ice-breaker games that always dissolves in tears and one person stomping out in a huff. I suggest my personal fave "What South Park Character Am I?" where the gamemaster pins a character name to the back of the adult, and he or she has to ask for hints all evening "who AM I" (Uncle Roger, who brandishes his service revolver to impress the children is obviously Officer Barr-Brady. The cousin who eats the lion's share of the pecan pah is Cartman. Bonus points if you figure out you are Cartman's mom or Kenny.)

If your relatives serve moonshine at the annual feast, the running around and yelling "I can't see, I can't see!" is happening to a lot of folks at once.

Why don't you just go some place else or host an exciting Thanksgiving day dinner at your place? Or you can order out and stay at home and watch a movie or do something you like that isn't boring. The possibilities here are endless.

We're fortunate - my parents live very close to us, and we can swing by there, eat, and be out within an hour and a half. If I had to visit relatives all day, I'd definitely vote for margaritas and board games. Hell, maybe we should do that anyway - would liven up our normally dull Thanksgiving!

I suggest electronic catch phrase. It's even more fun if you skip the teams and don't keep score. It's hard to explain, but it's never failed to end up hilarious in a largeish group.

Catch Phrase is a great game, and the new red and black version is cheaper than the original, and apparently has much less annoying sounds. We have both earlier editions, but we're going to buy this one too!

Simulaman™ says:
You should stand up after dinner and ask your family why they hate your wife. Then tell your mom she needs to mind her own business. Tell your sister to stop being so judgemental; and tell your brother to get up off his lazy ass and get a job. Finish it off by telling your alcoholic father to get back in the basement.

See if there are any local 5K run/walks being hosted. You don't have to run them, and you usually don't even have to walk the entire thing. We have something called the TurkeyTrot - there is no fee, no prizes and no winners...but it is fun to get out in the fresh air and do something besides EAT!

Hi, don't have any ideas but, you made me laugh - distance is too far to go see my family during thanksgiving so its sort of a downer - until I read your question - hope someone can give you some suggestions
