The GB deal for Klipsch Sub-12HG Synergy Series 12-Inch 300-Watt Subwoofer is a good price for a decent sub. The built -in BASH amp alone retails fro $170-. That said, this is a discontinued model. There is a newer model of this sub, to wit: the front firing Model RW-12d 12", but it will cost you $100- more.

Not arguing the discontinued portion of your statement, but the RW-12D is from Klipsch's "Reference" line, not their "Synergy" line. The Reference series are a higher quality for a higher price.

Does a current model perform that much better? Otherwise I see no reason to concern one's self it it's discontinued or not.

The sub I have is also a Klipsch. When I bought it 2 years ago, it was current, but it's now discontinued -- but it sounds just as good as it ever did.
