I don't know how old she was when I got her, but I know I've had her since 1995. 17 years with that arachnid. She outlasted 1 marriage, 1 broken engagement, 2 dogs, 1 cat, 5 "serious" girlfriends, 4 different chain video stores, 2 chain bookstores, the ENTIRE dot-com bubble, and 4 Presidential terms.

May she rest in peace.

Sorry to hear that. Perhaps a turtle next? A red eared slider can live 40+ years.

Dr.Maxx says:
Pets are like family, actually better sometimes, as they are good listeners, make you feel good when you play with them, and never complain, judge or lie to you. The length of time you had her is a testament to your caring for her. I'm so sorry for your loss. -Dr.Maxx

Sorry :( Some people do not get the relationship with non-humans, but pets are many times closer to us then many people. Dr. Maxx put it perfectly!

Sorry about your spider. If you had her that long, you must have taken very good care of her.

Sorry for your loss. But I'm curious: how did you know the sex of the spider?

Sorry Tony honey but females squat to pee and males lift their leg.

That really sucks. My biggest question is did you pet the tarantula? Did it sit on your lap while you watched TV? I would have to think that after 17 years it would know your presence well enough to never bite you.

Sorry for your loss. I'm sure it will hurt for a while but that's because you had a real connection with your pet. Most of use can sympathize with you because its usually natural for humans to care and love unconditionally. I just really wish at some point the mean comments would cease to exist.....

So sorry about the loss of your pet.I lost my cat the weekend before Thanksgiving.I had him for almost nine years.Strange how we can feel so much closer to our pets than people. They love us unconditionally where most people wont I suppose.I hope your memories can help you heal.

Sloopy,

I don't know anything about keeping tarantulas as pets so I have some questions. Do they keep growing or reach a point where they remain the same size. Did she show preference for certain people over others? Did the tarantula start to "slow down" or show signs of aging? I would assume that 17 years is a long life. What an interesting little pet.

I'm sorry she is gone. What was her name? May she RIP.
