I have an aging relative (actually relative of a friend) who has a hard time in the winter knowing if it is AM or PM after waking from a nap because 5am and 5pm are both dark out. Those little red am/pm dots are too hard for her to see...she is 88 and lives alone so there is no one to orient her. There used to be little electric desk clocks with BIG red AM and PM next to the time...anyone have one they would like to list on Amazon for me to buy for her??? I have searched the internet extensively and can find nothing like it...help!! Thanks

search for 'talking alarm.' I bought my great grandmother one years ago that would say the time if you pressed a button. It also had a larger back lit display. I think I got is at the sharper image, but that was a long time ago and I know other companies make them now. It worked out very well for her. She was legally blind even with her glasses, so being able to hear the time was much better for her than having to look at it. Good luck.

22----None of your clocks have the LARGE AM PM next to the time...did I miss something? The little dots are of no help to him because he is visually impared.

HibiddyJibiddy....Thanks! Maybe the talking clock would be even better if I can't find the LARGE AM PM next to the time. Appreciate your help. Great suggestion.

Fitzbucket....Doesn't matter, just something that says the time and then has LARGE AM when it is morning and PM when it is night. Thanks for any help.

Try searching on Amazon for "projection clocks" that project the time on the ceiling in addition to the display on the clock. These might have the AM/PM designation projected - as long as it is dark enough to see it on the ceiling.

Instead of looking for a clock with large AM/PM display, maybe try looking for a large display clock that does Gov't/Military time. If he understands how to tell time that way, you'd find it easier finding a clock with this option more than you would one that literally displays "AM/PM".

Michael and Nork....I asked her and she said military/24 hour time would be confusing. She is 88 and slightly visually impaired. Thanks for your thoughtful suggestions.

Fitzbucket and Clifton...Thanks for your caring response. I went to both and they are great for telling the day of week, month, time...but not time of day as in AM PM and that is where she gets confused. :-( She is still in her own home and hopes to stay there. I think the talking clock may be my only choice and hey, maybe she will like it even better that the old LARGE AM PM next to it.

Is it a medication thing? Like, she needs to know when to take her pills?

fitzbucket...no, just to orient her to day/night after a nap when she first wakes up. I went to the site for people who are visually impared and think maybe the talking clock is perfect...they say AM or PM. She knows the day of the month by going to her calendar....but a voice prompt is also a great feature for many elderly people! When you are confined to home, one day becomes the same as the last for many older people, so this is another great application for a talking clock that might help someone or even her down the road if she needs it. Thanks

Okay, she sounds like she's "all there". A talking alarm clock would be good then. I was afraid of dementia (sp?) and her hearing the time but it just not "clicking" in her head.

So, yeah, I'd get her a talking clock.

She is definately "all there" :-) Just fuzzy when she first wakes up and it is dark out side in Winter from 4pm to 7am. Not a big deal but she asked me to see if I could find a clock that would have a big AM PM since those little dots by hers are so tiny to see. I thought, easy enough, no problem...wrong! :-) All the computer, ipod, skype, phone technology, etc. blows her away so she might get a big kick out of a talking clock. Thanks.

Thanks Moon. That is BIG...but a hands clock does not help with AM/PM difficulties. Appreciate you trying to help.

Here's my suggestion. AM/PM is written out which is nice. To further clarify, AM allways is at the top of the "card" and PM is at the bottom.

reVamp...thanks! This is the closest to what she asked for...the am pm is written out, tiny but written out! If the talking clock isn't to her liking, this is the next best thing. I'll ask her if she can see the am pm or if she thinks it is too small. Excellent suggestion... Thanks very much.

Quan...I think that is also a great clock for my purposes! What another find! I am so grateful for these wonderful resources people have been so kind to send. Many thanks!
