R. Hoover says:
A thousand times, yes-- IF you order more than 10 times a year, the shipping pays for itself. Not to mention, you get unlimited videos to stream from their free library.

If you are a parent you can sign up for free for up to a year with "Amazon Mom."
If you're a student, there is a free trial period, and then you pay only $40 a year.

R. Nelson says:
Paul - It will depend on your usage.

I have prime and it has been beyond worth the $79. Works out to $6.58 a month, I easily save that in shipping without worrying about order minimums or slower shipping methods for free shipping.

But how often do you shop from Amazon, do you plan on taking advantage of the free prime videos?

Booker says:
For me it is, but it depends on how often you shop at Amazon. I find myself on here almost daily. While my wife braves the crowded malls and stores, I refuse to shop at brick and mortars unless I absolutley have to. So most of my shopping is done online, and so being able to receive items in 2 days is worth paying an annual fee. The video service I've used a little bit, but I have Netflix and DirecTV on demand, which I use primarily.

If you order enough, yes. Absolutely. Plus you get free book rentals if you also own a kindle and free movie rentals too. Great deal.

E. L. Fulton says:
as a busy mom, which is every mom, it saves me time and money when I compare prices from Amazon and other stores online.Lots of times prices will raise dramatically on Amazon but if you shop around online you' 'll know what you are going to pay for something without getting ripped. And rather than running around looking at stores I save time and peace of mind not to mention gas. I order frequently so not paying shipping costs pays the membership for me.

Best thing I ever did. If you are an avid Amazon purchaser like I am, I cannot recommend it enough!

diva says:
Oh absolutely. It more than pays for itself in the year. S/H gets very expensive sometimes more than the products you buy.

Yes, I use it every week and I get to "share" the free shipping with my kids. I've had it for years and I will keep renewing it.

We use the heck out of it! We have tablets, with HDMI out we use to our TV's when we want big screen streaming. So, either we watch streaming, read kindle, or enjoy the fast shipping on no minimum purchase (except for this weird add on service they have now). We are renewing in February, just to let you know. =)

They need to add a "Retired" rate to that.

Absolutely! I hesitated because of the price. Never regreted it. I have saved a bundle on shipping and Kindle benefits are awesome.

I'm usually not in a hurry to receive purchases and just wait until I qualify for Super Saver shipping. But I've been considering Prime for the video access. I don't have Internet at home though and would access the video while visiting friends and family. How does the video work? Does Amazon track and limit streaming to one location or will I be able to view the video whereever I can log in?

TomF says:
also, with Prime, you get amazon movies, many are free. It's a better deal than Netflix or any other types of pay per view and they have much better selections plus, free shipping on anything that you buy!

Miami Nights says:
I'll just add: you should be aware that if you live in an area where you're charged a tax on your Amazon purchases, the Prime membership cost of $79 will also be taxed.

S. Finch says:
yes, I use prime at certain times of the year but the shipping pays for itself. I love the 3.99 one day shipping option with prime for things I need in a hurry without paying to much

It is very worthwhile. I'd like to add that you get to "borrow" a free book every month that you can read on your Kindle, Kindle for PC, or smartphone.

R. Nelson says:
Phyllis: To clarify, you need to have an actual Kindle to use the borrowing library. The Kindle for PC and Smartphone apps don't work.
