The story of a Mumbai slum and the people inhabiting it was stunning. All of her research and documentation of this world tragedy is woven into a story so rich, real, and sad that it can't be put down. It is an important work that sheds light on lives that would have probably never touched our own but none the less you can't keep from caring and thinking about - and that is how you influence change. Boo could have just reached out and helped a few of them with financial contributions, but staying true to her story will help to shed light on the abject poverty of this vast city as nothing else ever will. Never will I fly into the Mumbai airport without thinking of Abdul and his friends - Asha and her daughter and all the other characters you come to care about - and praying that change and hope had at last come to Anawandi.
