Today only, save on the deluxe 15-disc set that includes extended editions of "The Fellowship of the Ring," "The Two Towers," and "The Return of the King" on Blu-ray. It also includes nine special feature DVDs with over 26 hours of spell-binding behind-the-moviemaking material and the rare "Costa Botes Documentaries."
I don't know where you live, but there is a good chance that you can do the LOTR marathon at movies if time and money permit. Regal and AMC are providing the marathon all over the U.S. on Dec. 8th.

I'm hoping this discussion will solve the mystery of the difference between the two LOTR Extended Blu-ray SKUs: 2011 release (ASIN B0026L7H20) and 2012 release (ASIN B007ZQAKHU, this deal). See the discussion "Is this really different than the 2011 version?" below. Not holding my breath, though. Amazon or WB, jump in here anytime!

The two different blu-ray versions have different Aspect Ratios? One is 1.77:1 and the other (not on sale today) is 2.35:1. The Gold Box Deal for these movies in February 2012 was the 2.35:1 version. This 1.77:1 version on sale today was released in May 2012. Of course, these descriptions aren't always accurate. The 2.35:1 version I have has slight black bars on the top and bottom, which means I'm seeing the whole movie and not one adjusted to fit into 1.77:1, or so I'm guessing. Maybe someone with the set on sale today can comment on how it looks.
It may be they released a new edition because the Digital Copy included with mine expired in June 2012.

But now /may/ not be since you know eventually the 3-in-1 "Precious" Edition is inevitable
And equally importance the eventual /single/ disc extended version that's just got the major commentary (remember when they put them all on single disc dvd's awhile later?).
I'm happy with my theatrical blus and extended dvd's for now :D

This is the version with the non-screwed up colors... ...because it's the version with the green tinted fellowship that is Peter Jackson's intented tinting of the Fellowship.

I bought this set for about $70, July of last year for $70. I had a $25 gift certificate so the price was actually $45. Even at $70, I think it was a good price for these blue ray movies. These are the extended editions not shown in theaters and add a lot more the story.
The only thing that isn't included with this set that is with mine is the digital copies. If I had one complaint about the set I bought, is that it was a real pain downloading the digital copies. The WB software absolutely sucked and would not download the digital copies. Customer service finally just sent me the digital copies in the mail.
Even though the digital copies aren't included, $43.49 is a great price.

$43.49 is a good price. I paid $70+ for this set. The films are excellent and I appreciate the extended material, but $70 is too much to pay for 3 films. I would jump at this price, if I didn't already own it.

If you use Google, you'll find an explanation for the "new" 2012 release of the Extended Edition set on blu ray: When the *Extended* version of each movie was made available for sale on Blu Ray individually (previously available only in the set), the set also was re-released at the same time, with no other change than removal of the digital copy references. In other words, the discs in this set are the same as in the 2011 set and the packaging differs only slightly.
I can't vouch for that personally, but I read that at a few different professional review websites enough times to make the explanation seem legitimate.
I bought mine at $49.99 as a BF special last year, right here on Amazon. It is very nice and I have no regrets.

Generic said: "There's always a chance the price will drop either today, or tomorrow, or at another retailer. Always.
"The best price" will likely occur when blu-ray format is replaced by something else. "
BUT there's a certain amount of value in being able to watch them now or soon. You can save even more by waiting forever and not buying. I paid 49.49 on 2/28/12 from amazon and don't regret it. I only mildly regret paying 70 for Alien anthology two years ago.

I really want the individual packaging of these films because I really like how they look and that they are seperate, but this is such a good deal its really hard to let go. http://camelcamelcamel.com/The-Lord-Rings-Fellowship-Extended/product/B007ZQAKHU
