Awesome price..cheapest it's ever been! Even with a few disappointing transfers like Marnie, The Man Who Knew Too Much and The Birds this set is SO worth it. You'd be a fool not to buy it at this price! Veritgo, Rear Window, Psycho, North by Northwest, The Trouble With Harry, Shadow Of A Doubt, Topaz, Saboteur and others look great!

I don't think The Birds is one of the disappointing transfers...it is inconsistent, but often excellent. I think you meant to say Family Plot is done poorly.

I bring it up because obviously The Birds is one of the bigger jewels here. If a film had to be done poorly, I think we'd all vote for Family Plot over The Birds.

But why Universal? Why did you fail us on a few of the films?

Like many, after seeing some of the films generating complaints, I was boycotting this set to send a message to Universal that they need to pay more attention, but at this price, I may have to cross the picket line.

I love The Trouble with Harry. Well, all of them, but The Trouble with Harry is probably the last one I saw, and it was too twisted!

"The Trouble With Harry" is one of my favorite Hitchcock films...it's "quirky", but it's beautiful. It's one of the best transfers, along with "The Birds". I bought the UK box and "The Man Who Knew Too Much" is not as problematic as all the comments I've read. There are a few early sequences (on a bus) that skew a bit yellow, but the rest (98%) of the film looks fine (not perfect, but not riddled with lines or inconsistent color). I was amazed at how dark "Vertigo" is...only a few scenes pop, but there is nothing to really carp about, either. "The Birds" is wonderful. There are process shots that will NEVER look realistic, especially in a format like Blu ray. If they attempted to make those shots look "other than" process, there would be squawking about that, too.

R. L. Pullman,
I LOVE "The Trouble With Harry," also. The color is so beautiful; the story, characters and score are so dark/funny/sweet.

I had this set pre-ordered for $209. I cancelled my pre-order at the last minute after seeing the less-than-stellar reviews. I had a bit of regret when I passed up on the $150 offer Amazon had a couple of months ago. Well, at $119.99 I had to take the plunge. Was never much interested in Family Plot anyway. Most of the jewels seem to be intact.

Now, if Criterion put this set together, we'd have something ...

Yea, they did a pretty good job on Lady Vanishes and 39 Steps...

So, is it worth re-buying these blu-rays when I already have the DVD 'masterpiece edition'?

In reply to an earlier post on Dec 22, 2012 2:36:24 PM PST
I want to know that also.. I think that if i get this, i'm just going to place the bluray cases into the dvd masterpiece box (since it's a beautiful red velvet box with gold lettering)

This is still too expensive. It should be more like $59.99.

That part of earth where things are priced reasonably -- esp. when their quality is less than reasonable.
