I purchased this device in November of 2012. It performs as advertised and the Roku is legendary for quality service. Simple straight forward and an excellent product. If you need or want this type device this is a great price on a superior product.

The resolution looks to be the old standard definition

Hmm, this would be ideal for anyone who enjoys watching movies in bed, using the ceiling as a backdrop.

While the Vine reviews are often useful I am suspect of a product that had to be given away to get reviews (good or bad).

Bought it when it was first released in October to use as a Christmas gift for my son - 13 years old. I paid $299 and I don't regret my purchase at all! Pretty basic plug and play out of the box. We were pleased with it - easy to set up and he had it up and running 1-2-3. Of course, it does well in a darker room, but we had three of the boys laying on the couch all looking up at the ceiling! We have an inflatable screen we will be using for outdoor viewing when the weather is warmer! For a gizmo gadget, we like it! If you are looking for a high quality projector, no this is not it.

14 out of 37 reviews are from Vine members; isn't it unfair to base your consideration for an item upon a minority? What about the 23 Non-Vine members...doesn't their feedback account for anything? Honestly; before you should declare that reviews are "tainted", consider the facts...if you don't like Vine reviews, dismiss them and then judge the worthiness of an item via the unsolicited reviews that remain, or your comments become as "bias" as the Vine reviews you condemn.

I own two Rokus and love both. I considered this product but it seems a bit under powered. I have been holding out for something a bit more upgraded but I may try this out for this price.

Does that mean I will have to paint the bedroom wall white?

Edited to add: I just ordered it. Cheaper than a big screen TV and all I watch is Prime and Netflix on my Rokus. Easy to move around the house. Even if you have to buy a screen, it is still much cheaper. Just hope the quality is somewhat ok.

And, clearly, it's impossible for a non-Vine review to be tainted.

@TonyS- A prior commentator (bikertrashice), expressed their concern about Vine reviews in particular and not reviews in general. I was simply replying to their comment and suggesting that there are options that would perhaps be more to his/her liking...nothing more, nothing less. It becomes redundant to read all of the Vine-bashing commentary sometimes. I am not a "Viner", but I can tell you one thing; my review of an item would be as honest and forthright whether I was one or not and believe that virtue would be the same in most everyone else.
