Wow nice tie in with the movie ticket, first time I have seen that.

Just wish it included the unrated version of the 4th film, and I read elsewhere that the extras are severely lacking. I ordered a copy 10 minutes ago, but I decided against it and cancelled. I guess I'll just wait until the 6th film is inevitably released and get the ultra complete blu ray set lol

I am on the fence here, I was all set to add to my cart when I clicked on the product link and started reading the reviews. It sounds like the first 2 movies are weak video quality and FOX did not spend much time on the transfer. Also from the reviews Live Free or Die Hard is not the unrated version but the PG13 theatrical release. To me those are 2 big negatives.

On the other hand I lost my DVD copies in my divorce so I need to replace them any way and I had planned on seeing this in the theater this weekend. So if I deduct the cost of the ticket ($9 around here and I don't have to see it opening weekend anyway but it looks like the voucher is instantaneous) it comes to $16 for this set. Pretty hard to say no to 4 bucks a movie for bluray.

The movies themselves are all excellent, except Die Hard 2, in my opinion. The original is an action classic that put Bruce Willis on the map. I have probably watched this movie over 100 times and every Christmas time I pick it out as a Christmas movie to watch. Die Hard 2 is an OK action movie and I think easily the weakest of the series, but still an above average action flick. I thought Die Hard, With a Vengeance was awesome and loved the interaction between Willis and Samuel L. Jackson, I liked the broken down McClane having not a lot to live for but then still kicking some butt. Live Free or Die Hard was an excellent sequel in my opinion. I enjoyed some of the subtleties in how McClane is a dinosaur from an era gone by but just the man for the job when SHTF and technology is all broken. For instance in the opening part of the movie when he is checking in on his daughter and he asks how his chief knew where he was and was told the cars were all low jacked years ago. His sort of WTF body language response makes me laugh every time.

All in all a great set of action movies at a great price and that have really stood the test of time, I may have just talked myself into it...if any one buys this and redeems the movie pass does it include Marcus theaters? I don't see how it couldn't as they are huge, but that is all I have in my area. But that would probably be the deal breaker if the pass did me no good.

I already have the collection on bluray but I like this box better. Oh well, not worth rebuying it just for a different case.

I just bought my set. The code for the movie ticket redemption has yet to hit my inbox, so it is not instantaneous. And this set does include the unrated version of the fourth film, just thought I'd throw that out there since there seems to be debate over it. Happy V Day to all! I'm happy with my new boxed set for only $6.25 per film!

Ok, I don't own any of the movies. However, reading about the 4 film not being unrated should I get this for the price? If this does come with a movie ticket I would be getting this for $15 So is it a good deal for me?

Posted on Feb 14, 2013 2:19:09 AM PST
There is no Unrated 4th Movie (Live Free or Die Hard) on Blu-ray. So if do not let that stop you from getting the set.

Also, the image/sound quality is very good. DH 1 does look dated, but its a film stock issue not bad transfer. Until Fox does a full 4k or 8k restore (read never... This ain't Star Wars level money), again don't let this put you off.

A Great deal on a series that managed to stay fun and entertaining thru 3 sequels!

Yes! Get the set!! It's a great deal! Even for just the 1st three!

This is a really good price for the set. If you plan on seeing the new movie in theatres, and want to own all of the previous movies on blu ray, you won't find a better deal.
Sure the transfers on the first 2 movies aren't excellent (after all they were done when blu ray was still relatively new), and the 4th movie doesn't have the unrated version (it hasn't been released on blu ray yet) but its still a really good value.
I bought this set earlier this week and I can say from personal experience its worth the money, especially for $25.

Make sure the reviews are for this bluray set and not for the previous one... Amazon has a habit of mixing in reviews from previous releases as well as combining DVD reviews with those for Blurays.

The reviews I looked at were all Bluray. But I know what you are saying. They even do that for TV's. You will be looking at one size and there will be reviews for a different size TV lumped in.

The featured review is one from 2008 - and this new bluray set was release just recently... I'd like to think there have been some improvements in the last five years.

According to the review of this new set on blu-ray.com, the video transfers are the same as in the earlier set.

This link is a pretty comprehensive review of this package.

http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/59327/die-hard-25th-anniversary-collection/

Including:

"Yeah, there's an Unrated version of Live Free or Die Hard, but the majority of the language has mostly been added to the picture in post, and blood consists of red CG dust clouds that dissipate instead of actually appearing on surfaces or clothing."

and

"The package does offer an entirely new bonus Blu-Ray with a series of retrospective features on the whole series."

OK thanks, I did not notice that. I did look at some newer reviews and at a quick glance it looks like the video quality did not improve on the first films.

Looks interesting. Can anyone tell me whether the audio is uncompressed lossless or not. The use of the surround system is important to me. Thanks
