This is a really nice point-and-shoot camera. For the novice photographer, with the default set to Superior Auto mode, it corrects some of the mistakes that a novice could run into that would otherwise ruin a great picture. For a more advanced photographer, it has some nicer features in a point-and-shoot that will keep them happy. If you know someone who's looking for a point-and-shoot camera, this one is extremely likely to meet their needs, and it is just a steal at the Amazon Deal of the Day price.

YES!! I've been waiting for this camera to come up all year!!! I bought the TX-10 for $169 on GB last year. You WILL NOT see the price this low again. Trust me... I've been waiting...!! I got the blue one, which is really slick looking. I absolutely LOVE the camera. It's got all the bells and whistles of any point and shoot, plus it's waterproof. I've taken it snorkeling 5 times so far, up to depths of 20 feet. No issues. And the picture and video quality are amazing. It's truly HD video. The screen is a little finicky when there are water droplets on it, so you have to rub them off. Not a big deal though. It works just fine fully submerged. You can also take photos while recording video, which is a nice feature when you're swimming around. Pick one up. You will love it.

I own the previous model of this camera, and while it's quite nice, I only use it when I go to water park or the beach because photo quality is poor with mushy details. With that said, I like the many shooting modes and the sweep panorama. If photo quality in a compact size is your highest concern than you're better off looking into a Canon S110 or Sony RX100. Both are much, much, more costly, but take much higher quality photos. With this camera Sony has packed too many megapixels into too small a sensor resulting in poor detail retention.
Great price though if you don't print larger than 5x7 and wants something rugged.

I have this camera, and it is absolutely the best camera I have ever owned. I wanted was something that would take great point-and-shoot pictures without much effort, and this camera does a great job. I've taken it "snuba-ing" (a cross between snorkel and scuba) up to 20 feet and the pictures turned out beautifully. They were so good that the owners of the tour company we did it through asked for an online link once I posted them so they could feature them on their website. There's also a peace of mind knowing that you can drop your camera in the pool or in the sand at the beach, and it will be alright.

Not larger than 5x7? You should be able to get good prints that size from a 3 MP camera. This is 16.2 MP. Megapixels (MP) don't directly equate to image quality, of course, but they should give a rough indication. Typical 16+ cameras ought to be able to print decent 16x20 prints. Is the image quality that poor on this camera (noise? other issues?) that prints larger than 5x7 don't look good?

Actually, given that the price for the D20 is showing up as just $15 more, DEFINITELY go with that model if you want to consider bumping up. The D20 offers some major improvements over the D10. I've had the D20 for about 6 months and love it. I restrict my use of it to rugged conditions (beach, pool, ocean, dusty, etc.), but I get some awesome images from it. However, for the price of today's deal on the Sony - around $130 less than the Canon - the Sony sounds like quite a bargain.

By the way, while Amazon shows yesterday's price at $269, making this sound like a steal of a deal, B&H has it for $179. I'm not sure how long that price will last, but there is no indication of it being a temporary price. Amazon's price today is obviously much better than that and worth jumping on, but if you're unsure of getting right now or if it sells out, know that it is still available for a decent price at B&H. From the reviews I've read, the Canon D20 is probably still a more rugged, more waterproof camera with good low-light shooting underwater, but if price is an issue, this Sony still sounds like a bargain for those wanting something for the pool or beach. Sony cameras usually have great video, too (which is confirmed by the reviews on this model here on Amazon).

B. Stoops - Last year the DX-10 went back up to the listed "yesterday's price" the next day and stayed there all year. I don't think this is like the jewelry or watches where the historical price is inflated. According to Camel, it was above $300 most of the year and then went down to $269 in November. Also B&H website says the "$150 off" retail ends Dec 31. Thanks for sharing that though. If you miss today's deal, you have until the end of the year to get the camera for $20 more. This camera will cost $270 all year.

@All Trump - Thanks for sharing the end date on the B&H deal. As shared previously, I think this deal is worth jumping on now at Amazon if you feel this camera meets your needs. and at B&H if time/stock runs out here on Amazon. Other stores are showing this at well above $200.

When I print larger than 5x7 with mine I notice soft details, especially hair and foliage which starts to look mushed instead of individual. The prints look fine, and most people will be more than happy with them, but if you're critical there are better options.

"Useless underwater" is a relative term. The nice thing about it is that it's not useless above water, even after using it underwater. I wish I could say the same for the iPad. I wish I had said the same for the iPad before my young son found out the hard way.

I have the previous model of this camera (Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-TX10). I purchased it to go on vacation in Tulum, Mexico, since that area boasts of the 2nd larges corral reef (The Great Barrier Reef being the largest). It was simple to use and took pictures underwater beautifully! My snorkeling pictures definitely do not look like they were taken under water as they are crystal clear. Also, all of my friends and family LOVE the soft skin feature. It takes away blemishes and wrinkles. I actually took a close up pic of a girl who had sever acne scars (with soft skin on high) and her complexion looked flawless. Of course you could turn the feature on low to just get a slight glow to your complexion. Bottom line is it makes everyone look good. I absolutely love my camera. I really wish there was a way I could share some of my pics I have taken on this review so you can see the quality of underwater and regular pictures this camera takes. And this price is AMAZING! I paid twice this much for mine!!!

Black is always safest, although personally I'm 24 and a guy and I think that blue one looks pretty sick. I could see some seeing it as a little feminine though. Depends on your son.
