Viner inflated reviews! Few actually bought these, most are viner giveaways. Adding famous artists names to each does nothing to increase quality either. Beats by Dr Dre wannabees. Should sell for under $30.

Kinda funny. So adding famous names to each does nothing to increase quality, but Beats by DR DRE are fine, huh? :)

These rapper phones come and go with the wind. At $99.00, bargains? If you listen to mostly rap, bass heavy "music", MP3s, I'd probably wait for the V-Moda 100 to Gold Box. You'd like a quick gift for your favorite basshead, these will do, and they can always be returned if the fit, sound, QC don't satisfy.
Search Innerfidelity for reliable reviews sourced from quality test equipment and human ears.
Jazz/Classical/Audiophiles need not apply, unless you desire inexpensize traveling phones to be used with portable devices, and save your serious listening for home.

Look, in this price range (under $500) there is only one pair of headphones to really consider, and that is the Audio Technica ATH-M50. It is both the #1 rated and #1 selling (to audiophiles) headphone. And not due to untrustworthy, seeded, "Vine" reviews. Amazon is selling them today for $130; a couple of weeks ago, they were discounted to $99. You want something other than the Audio Technica? Fine, look at a reputable audio manufacturer. Don't waste your money on over-hyped crap from Dr. Dre (currently made by Monster), 50 Cent, Ludacris, et al.
Headphones are always a great topic for debate. Someone says they work in a studio, so they think they're an expert. Most of our hearing isn't acute enough to appreciate the highs and lows delivered by really high quality headphones. I have a pair of Sennheiser HD448 corded headphones I bought from Dahmart through Amazon for $35.00, and a pair of cordless Sennheiser MM450's I paid $250.00 for. They sound the same to me, although the MM450's were worth the extra money for the Bluetooth and noise cancelling functions. As for Vine reviews, I find them generally informative. I'm always a bit wary though of products that are given away to garner reviews.

JohnHardy - since you work in studios, music production, etc, what would you recommend to a guy who is willing to spend around 3k on a home theater system (for speakers only). and then, what's your recommendation on receiver, on a 1k budget?
i was ready to spend about 3.5 on Bose...i dunno if it's garbage, it's pretty good. but the hassle of getting speakers and making them work together in harmony with the receiver has always been challenging to me. if my boss (wife) approves 4k, this will be my third home theater system. hehe :)
