Klipsch G-17 Air Wireless Sound System with AirPlay
Expired!
4.1 out of 5 stars   (84)
Special guest deal presented by our colleagues at Woot.com: "G-17. Could be a spacecraft. Could be a robot. How will your friends know what you mean? Here's our advice: bypass the problem and just call it 'my Klipsch Air Wireless Sound System.' Over your existing Wi-Fi network you'll be able to stream freely from your device of choice. iPod? iTunes? iBet you'll be able to use them both! Free yourself from headphone wires and enjoy those MP3s the way they used to be enjoyed. Remember: It's not real rock-n-roll until somebody tells you to turn it down."

"you'll be able to stream freely from your device of choice."

...as long as 'your choice' is from Apple.

I'm not starting a Good Apple/Bad Apple war...just pointing that out to save other non-AppleUsers from spending time seeing if this is useful for them.

If I'm wrong, someone please correct me, but everything I read was Apple Apple Apple.

Ash1138 says:
You are correct. "Air Play" is an Apple proprietary standard.

"The G-17 Air has yet to meet a stranger."

What a great thing to tell us about the item! Glad to know everyone knows who/what this is when I bring it around.

As for the "wacky decription" used for this item, it's important to note who Amazon is touting it for....WOOT.COM~~ Long known for ALWAYS trying too hard to be funny or clever { rarely achieving either}...... for the apple issue, they do only mention "i stuff", so I am inclined to think it is based on Apple--- Interesting to use thru WiFi... No bluetooth

Definitely for APple products, but there is a 3.5mm Aux jack on the back.

NevesNET says:
AirPlay (originally AirTunes) is an Apple streaming protocol and the audio is licensed to 3rd party companies. Your iDevices should pick up these speakers and give you an option to send the sound to them automatically. As for the price, well, no comment.

What a steal! I love mine and will buy another. Airplay is kool once you set it up over your wifi but the USB connection is handy too (my fave). i dont use the 3.5mm input as much but love for future use in case i need. the best part is she really jams. Very surprising for something this small.

Dude. Grow a sense of humor. I think Woot's descriptions are inspired. Think of having to do that, every single day of the year!

Maybe I would share your opinion about the Woot descriptions if they actually WERE occassionally clever & funny. I find them very formulaic. Are you serious, you find *this* "inspired":

"G-17. Could be a spacecraft. Could be a robot. How will your friends know what you mean? Here's our advice: bypass the problem and just call it 'my Klipsch Air Wireless Sound System.'"

Ugh. What is so witty about THAT ???

Can I use this to steam music from my computer or Android phone/tablet(within home WiFi network) as I don't have any Apple products for Airplay?

Posted on Feb 21, 2013 8:01:23 AM PST
Does this do something that Apple TV doesn't already do (and more) for $99.00? What am I missing here?

Hard to get excited by this product when AirPlay is apparently the only wireless connection method. For the list price (or even the $220 being asked for today) they couldn't include a non-proprietary standard like Bluetooth?

Derbydano says:
I have a mix of Airplay and Bluetooth speakers at home. The Bluetooth require a little more effort to make them work, i.e. power cycle & pairing. The AirPlay devices work without any hassle (99% of the time). You can play music from iTunes to multiple AirPlay devices at the same time and adjust the volume independently per device directly from iTunes. Only one Bluetooth speaker device can be used at a time. AirPlay is great for listening to music throughout the house without cranking the volume up loud enough to wake the neighbors.
