Welcome to Amazon.com Labels and Artists Guide

This guide is designed to help labels and artists make the most out of their listings at Amazon.com. Find out how to list your CDs for sale at Amazon.com, how to correct information on our detail pages and how to add images and descriptive content to the detail page for your CD.

Determining How to List Your CDs for Sale at Amazon.com

The way in which you list your CDs for sale on the Amazon.com site depends on if you have exclusive rights to your CDs.

  • If you have exclusive rights to your CDs, you can add your CDs to our site through one of the following options:

    1. CreateSpace (if you do not have or do not want to manage physical inventory)
    2. Amazon Advantage (if you have physical inventory)

  • If you do not have exclusive rights, please visit the Fulfilled by Amazon (FBA) and the Sell on Amazon pages.

CreateSpace

CreateSpace provides a fast, easy, and economical way to distribute your music in CD and MP3 formats on Amazon.com and other channels without inventory or setup fees. With the CreateSpace Disc on Demand model, CreateSpace produces your CDs as customers order, so you never have to predict demand or hassle with order fulfillment. Your CDs are always in stock.

To join the Disc on Demand program, you'll need to set up a CreateSpace account online. Once your account is complete, you can start adding your albums for submission into our system. You can submit your content via our self-service digital submission tools or you can send us a copy of your CD, and we will ingest for you. There are 3 main requirements for content delivery to CreateSpace:

  1. Metadata - Provided through our online submission tools
  2. Artwork - Booklet page scale: 4-32 pages
  3. Content delivery - Digital and physical delivery is possible

Once submission is complete your title will appear on Amazon.com within 20 days for sale to our customers. You can sit back and relax once your title is available as it will remain 100% in stock on our site until you tell us to remove it. There is no inventory management or media spike hassles to worry about - CreateSpace has you covered.

You can easily manage your account through our self-service tools that will allow you to pull sales reports, order promotional copies at discounted rates, and activate or deactivate albums at your own discretion.

Amazon Advantage

Amazon Advantage is a self-service consignment program that enables you to promote and sell media products directly on Amazon.com. To join Advantage you'll need to set up an Advantage account online. Once your account is active, you can start adding the items you intend to source to us. Adding items to your account tells us which products are available from you. To list products, you need to have valid legal rights to distribute them.

Once your titles are enrolled (or listed) in your account, Amazon.com will automatically begin ordering them. This typically occurs once a week. Our goal is to have you send us enough copies of the title to meet current customer demand along with enough extra to meet that demand for the next few weeks. You simply confirm the orders in your Advantage account and let us know when you anticipate them arriving at our warehouse. Information on shipping rules and guidelines can be found in the online Help Center of your Advantage account.

When you become a member of Advantage, we will keep copies in our inventory to offer customers immediate availability. Your CDs will be available to our extensive customer base and your CDs will appear more often when customers search our catalog compared with items that are out of stock.

We will help you sell your CD by displaying your cover art, providing track listings, displaying liner notes and additional information regarding the CD and we offer immediate delivery. Amazon Advantage also saves you time and money with easy restocking, hassle-free fulfillment, sales and inventory information, and automatic monthly payments.

You will find a complete program description, including information on how to sign up in three simple steps, at our Amazon Advantage homepage.

Catalog Information

At Amazon.com, it's up to you--the label or artist--to make your CDs stand out on our virtual shelves. You have the opportunity to sell your CDs to customers and persuade them to purchase. The following are the most important pieces of information you can add to your CD's detail page:

  • Cover Art: We've found that a picture of a title's cover on its Amazon.com page is its most influential selling point.  Please see our image help pages for information on how to submit product images.
  • We highly encourage larger labels to send us your images via our extranet, Vendor Central. Ask your buyer representative for details on how to send us your materials.
  • Track listings and Description: It's important to give customers a reason to buy a CD. A compelling description of the CD can be a great hook. Describing where a CD falls in an artist's career or listing hit songs helps customers make purchase decisions. To submit content and track listings, please go to Vendor Central. Your buyer representative can assist you if you have questions.
  • Reviews: Customers want to know what others are saying about your CD. If the critics are raving, let potential customers know! You may also submit these via Vendor Central.
  • Artist Store: If you work for a label or manage an artist or band, you may have the option to create an artist store to promote that artist or band. You can upload content to Artist Central to help promote your artist, band, and/or CD. Artist Central is free to anyone selling their music on Amazon.com. This tool enables musicians, record labels, and managers to upload official and compelling content to Amazon.com artist stores. Specific content to upload can include: MP3s for free streaming, official photos, videos, a biography, a Twitter feed, and a page banner. This content will reach millions of customers for free and it helps music fans on Amazon.com discover artists and their work more easily, leading to greater sales.

Visibility on Pandora

If there is a track listing and a retail offer on your CD's detail page, then your album should be visible on Pandora. However, if Pandora does not recognize your album on our site, common causes may include: there is no CD for sale on Amazon.com (and the MP3-only album does not meet Pandora's requirements) or there is no track listing on your CD detail page on Amazon.com. If you have an MP3-only album and have physical distribution rights, enroll your title through Disc on Demand via CreateSpace and your album will be recognized by Pandora. If the latter is the case, please contact your distributor to add track listings as we cannot do this directly. For any other questions, please contact Pandora directly.
