About Tax on Items Sold by Sellers on Amazon.com

Sellers may have different tax collection obligations, depending upon their business policies and the location of their operation.

Amazon.com has teamed with many sellers. For sales within the U.S., Amazon.com may calculate taxes on the sellers' behalf in accordance with their instructions. These instructions vary depending on the tax laws in each state.

Tax information for these sellers can usually be found in the seller's Shipping and Tax Information section.

Kindle books, subscriptions and active content titles sold by various publishers are subject to tax based on the publisher's tax reporting obligations and the taxability of digital books in those regions. As a result, tax for Kindle books sold by the publisher may differ from the tax to which you've been accustomed for Kindle products.

For Kindle books, subscriptions and active content titles sold by various publishers to locations outside the U.S., the publishers determine the tax to be included in the price.

Note: If you qualify for tax exempt status on a product sold by a seller and fulfilled by Amazon, you can Request a Tax Refund. For orders placed with a seller, but not fulfilled by Amazon, we are unable to initiate tax refunds or process exemption certificates on their behalf. However, you can contact the seller directly about your tax refund request.
