Create a Product Detail Page FAQAfter you read this FAQ, visit our Help pages for more details on how to begin creating a page.
What is a product detail page?A product detail page is the place where shoppers read details about a product for sale on Amazon. It includes the product image, price, description, customer reviews, ordering options, and the link to view offers from all sellers. Why do I need to create a page?Amazon has one of the largest catalogs of products available online. But we don't have everything. If you can't find a product detail page on Amazon for something you'd like to sell, then you should create a product page for it. Once created, that page will be available on Amazon for you to sell your inventory. What will the page I create look like? The product detail page you create will look like other product pages on Amazon. Information on the page will include a space for product image, price, description, customer reviews, ordering options, and the link to view offers from all sellers. By creating pages that use a standard format, shoppers can more easily navigate around a page to evaluate the products they want to buy. What is the process for creating a product detail page? The process for creating a product page is easy. Just confirm that the item you want to sell doesn't already have a page on Amazon. Then identify the type of product you are selling and tell us about it, including such information as product title, ISBN/UPC/EAN, description, and other features. Once you have created a product detail page, you can list you offering through Amazon Marketplace just as you do today, setting the price and selecting the condition of your item. You can read more about how to create a page and see screenshots of the process in our Walkthrough. What kind of information do I need to provide? The information you will need to provide depends on the type of product detail page you are creating. A certain amount of information will be required for all detail pages. Generally, you will have the opportunity to provide the title, product identifier (ISBN, UPC or EAN), description, measurements, and search terms that we will use to place the product in the appropriate browse nodes. Additional information will be required for specific types of products. More information about product detail page requirements can be found on the Product Detail Page Rules. What information can I include in my product description? The Product Description field allows you 2,000 characters to describe the product in detail. For some product categories, you may also have five Key Product Features fields of 100 characters each to create bullet points to highlight significant product attributes. Your product descriptions and bullet points should be clearly written to assist the customer in understanding the product, including details about its features, functions, and uses. When submitting information about a product, keep in mind Amazon standards as well as other industry standards for specifying the features and qualities of the type of product you're listing. It's important to know what you shouldn't include as well. When creating a product detail page, provide only the information that pertains to the features of the product in general, and not the condition of the particular product offering you plan to make when you create your inventory listing. Remember that the page you create will be available for other sellers to match their offerings to, so it should also not include promotional information. The following guidelines for describing books illustrate how you can meet buyer expectations as well as Amazon's requirements when it comes to detail page content. Additional information about product detail page content restrictions is provided in the Product Detail Page Rules. How long will it take to create a page?Filling out the product information takes just a few minutes. Once you submit the product information, Amazon will create the product page within fifteen minutes so that you can list your Marketplace copy on the newly created page. (It can take up to four days for a product detail page to be searchable on the website.) Is there a fee? There's no extra fee when you make a sale--whether you find the product detail page for your item already on Amazon or create a new one, the Marketplace selling fees are the same. In order to use the Create a Product Page feature in Marketplace, you must already be a Pro Merchant Subscriber. What categories can I sell in?You can create pages in all categories on Amazon except the following: Apparel & Accessories, Beauty, Cell Phones & Plans, Jewelry & Watches, Magazines, Health & Personal Care. This list is subject to change, and we hope to have these restricted categories available for product detail page creation in the future. What if I have a product that doesn't fit into an Amazon category, like stamps? You can still list your product on the website, even if it doesn't fit into an existing store. If you have products such as stamps or coins, feel free to create a new product detail page for it in the Everything Else store. As long as the product is not associated with one of our restricted stores, your page should be suitable to our general catalog. Are there tools for volume sellers? If you are listing items in our Books store, you can use our Book Loader to create pages in bulk. For all other product lines, you will be able to create product detail pages one at a time. Amazon is developing more tools for merchants to create product pages in volume. Stay tuned to our Seller Success announcement board for more information. How can I find out more about becoming a Pro Merchant?See our Help pages on volume selling to learn more about this program. Create a Product Detail Page is currently available only for Pro Merchants. We eventually hope to roll the service out to all sellers, but we do not have an estimated time for expansion. |
