Amazon.com recognizes, as do many of our customers, the importance of recycling electronic equipment at the end of its useful life. Amazon has put in place a recycling program for Kindle and Kindle batteries. Remember, in some areas, the disposal of rechargeable batteries and certain electronic devices is regulated, so make sure you dispose of Kindle and the battery in accordance with your local laws and regulations.

Information for Customers Living in the United States

All Kindles sent for recycling will undergo material reclamation by a licensed recycling facility. All identifying marks or personal documents will be erased or destroyed before or during the recycling process. For your convenience, Amazon covers all the costs associated with shipping and recycling your Kindle.

How to Recycle Your Kindle

There are two ways you can take advantage of the Kindle recycling program. By clicking here you will be directed to the website of our certified recycler Eco International. Once on the recycling website, you will be asked to enter your name and mailing address which will be used to generate a UPS shipping label. After the required information has been entered, you will be directed to print a prepaid UPS shipping label. Follow the packaging guidelines and drop your Kindle off at the nearest UPS pickup site.

General information on the recycling of electrical and electronic equipment in Europe

In order to preserve our environment, human health and natural resources the European Union (EU) adopted Directive on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EU WEEE Directive 2002/96/EC). Under this Directive, producers of most electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) have a number of responsibilities, including the financing of collection and recycling of WEEE, meeting labelling requirements, and providing information to end users.

Amazon is registered with WEEE compliance schemes in various countries.

End-of life products can often be disposed of free of charge at local municipal collection points.
