New Seller FAQ

What should I do if I can't find what I want to sell in the Amazon catalog?

If you want to sell an item but it does not currently exist in our retail catalog, you may be able to create a page for it using the Add a Product tool in your seller account. Once a page has been created for the product, you can list your copy of the item on it. Learn more.

Please note there are restrictions on some products and categories, and we cannot guarantee that an item will be accepted into our catalog. Learn more about Category, Product, and Listing Restrictions.

How do I decide if a Pro Merchant selling plan is right for me?

Our Pro Merchant selling plan is optional--you do not need a paid subscription to begin selling on our site. That said, this selling plan has many benefits for frequent or volume sellers. Read more about the Pro Merchant selling plan, including details about how to sign up. For instructions on upgrading your current account, see Individual and Pro Merchant Selling Plans.

How will I know when I have a sale?

We will e-mail you after we authorize the buyer's payment method. You can see orders, obtain shipping information, and confirm shipments in Manage Orders in your Seller Account. Pro Merchants can also download Order Reports to view sales.

Are there any fees for selling?

Marketplace items list for free, but a 6 to 25 percent referral fee, a variable closing fee, and a $0.99 per-item fee are applied when a sale occurs. The $0.99 per-item fee is waived for Pro Merchants. Click to view more information about Marketplace seller fees (including a list of referral fees) and shipping credits

When will I get my money?

All sellers must register for Marketplace Payments by Amazon. After you confirm a shipment we deposit the money into your Payments account. Every 14 days we disburse those funds to you. Learn more about Transferring Funds to Your Checking Account.

How can buyers see all of my Marketplace listings in one place?

A buyer can view all of a seller's listings in the Storefront.

Can I put my account on hold while I go on vacation?

Yes, you can do just that with the Listings Status feature.

How do I cancel my Pro Merchant selling plan?

The Pro Merchant selling plan can be switched to an Individual selling plan through your Seller Account. Click on "Seller Account Information," scroll down to Selling Plan and click "Switch Selling Plan."

If you want to close your listings immediately at the time you unsubscribe, continue reading to the next section of this page.

How do I close my account?

If you want to close your account, Seller Support can assist you. Keep in mind that you can also use our Listings Status feature to suspend your listings, or you can remove your listings entirely but hold on to your account for future use. Additionally, if you use your Amazon.com account for buying and selling, you can retain the buyer portion of the account.

If you will be closing your selling account, we ask you take a few steps first:
  • Cancel all your listings to remove them from the website
  • Resolve all of your transactions with buyers, including issuing any necessary refunds
  • Settle any balance on your Payments account
  • Pro Merchants should switch their selling plan to Individual so they won't be billed again
Once you've completed these actions, please let us know. On our Contact Seller Support form, under "Account Settings," click "Cancel or downgrade service" to send us a message. Please be signed in to Amazon with the e-mail address that is associated with the seller account you'd like closed. If you would like to close only the seller portion of your account, please specify this in your message.
