Using Kindle Outside the United States

You can buy books in the Kindle Store if you live outside the United States and use Kindle.

Buying Kindle from International Marketplaces

International customers can purchase Kindle devices and Kindle content from the following marketplaces.

  • Amazon.co.uk: Customers in the United Kingdom
  • Amazon.fr: Customers in France and Monaco
  • Amazon.de: Customers in Germany, Austria, Luxembourg, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein
  • Amazon.it: Customers in Italy, San Marino, Vatican City, and Switzerland
  • Amazon.es: Customers in Spain, including Canary Islands, Balearic Islands, Ceuta, and Melilla
  • Amazon.ca: Customers in Canada
  • Amazon.com.br: Customers in Brazil

Kindle ships with a USB cable that allows you to charge Kindle from a computer. Power adapters for different countries are also available and can be added to your Kindle order at the time of purchase or bought separately.

Buying Kindle from Amazon

You can purchase Kindle devices for shipment to eligible countries.

Signing into Amazon to Buy Kindle

Amazon.com recognizes most accounts established with Amazon International Sites. You can sign into Amazon.com using the e-mail address and password for your existing account and see your existing addresses and payment methods.

Paying for Your Kindle

All prices listed in the Kindle Store are in U.S. dollars (USD). Amazon.com accepts most major credit and debit cards. You can view a list of payment methods we accept on the Paying with a Credit or Debit Card Help page. If you signed into Amazon.com using an existing Amazon account, you should see your existing payment methods already available if you are shipping to an address listed on your account. For credit cards denominated in a supported currency other than U.S. dollars, your bank or credit card company may charge foreign conversion fees.

International Shipping Options, Customs, Duties, and Taxes

For tracking purposes, all international Kindle orders ship Priority Courier. Click the link for your region from the choices in the Shipping Rates and Times by Geographical Region section of our International Shipping Help page and scroll down to the Priority Courier Shipping Rates chart to view applicable shipping charges.

You are the importer of record for your shipment and your international shipment may be subject to customs duties, import taxes and other fees levied by the destination country and carrier.

If your selected country or territory is covered by our Amazon Global Program:
Import fees are estimated and collected as a deposit upon checkout.
If your selected country or territory is not included in our Amazon Global Program:
You're responsible for paying any applicable fees upon delivery of your Kindle.

Shopping in the Kindle Store

The Kindle Store primarily includes English-language books and U.S. and international newspaper and magazine titles with prices listed in U.S. Dollars. Subscriptions to blogs are not available to non-U.S. customers.

Paying for Purchases from the Kindle Store

The Kindle Store uses 1-Click Ordering and accepts most major credit and debit cards. You can view a list of payment methods we accept on the Paying with a Credit or Debit Card Help page. All prices are listed in U.S. Dollars (USD). For credit cards denominated in a supported currency other than U.S. dollars, your bank or credit card company may charge foreign conversion fees.

Periodicals Available to Non-U.S. Customers

Newspapers and magazines available to customers living outside the United States. Use Wi-Fi to download the full version available in your country. Blogs are not available to customers living outside the United States.

View and Update Your Country or Region

To shop the Kindle Store for titles available for your country or region, set the country or region in Manage Your Content and Devices.

We'll display your country or region at the top of the Kindle Store so you know that you're browsing the catalog of titles available for your country or region. Availability and pricing of titles can vary by country.

  1. Visit Manage Your Content and DevicesManage Your Content and Devices (Amazon.com full site), and then click the Settings tab.
  2. If the displayed country is incorrect under Country Settings, click Change.
  3. Select an existing home address from your Amazon account or enter a new one.
  4. When you're finished, click Update.

Using Wireless Outside the United States

Customers living or traveling outside of the United States can shop in the Kindle Store and receive books and periodicals wirelessly.Books are generally delivered in less than 60 seconds, but download times can vary based on Wi-Fi network settings, 3G or EDGE/GPRS coverage, signal strength, and file size.

Kindle Personal Documents Service

Kindle Personal Documents Service makes it easy to take your personal documents with you, eliminating the need to print. Kindle Personal Documents Service allows you to:

  • Read your personal documents on your Kindle. You and your approved contacts can send personal documents to your Kindle using your Send-to-Kindle e-mail address.
  • Store your personal documents in your content library. You can view and download your archived personal documents on your Kindle conveniently anywhere, at any time. These documents will be stored in your content library until you delete them from Manage Your Content and DevicesManage Your Content and Devices (Amazon.com full site).
  • Create notes, highlights, and bookmarks on your personal documents. These notes, highlights, and bookmarks, along with your last page read, are synced across your supported registered Kindle devices using Amazon Whispersync technology.
