Amazon Instant Video on Kindle Fire


You can watch your favorite movies and TV shows with Amazon Instant Video and Prime Instant Video on your Kindle Fire. On the Home screen, tap Video.

To purchase, stream, and download videos, your Kindle Fire requires a Wi-Fi connection and must be registered to your Amazon.com account.

Only one Amazon.com account can be registered to your Kindle Fire at a time. If someone in your household has an Amazon Prime membership, it's best to use that account so you can take full advantage of Prime Instant Video. Prime Instant Video provides unlimited streaming of thousands of movies and TV shows at no additional cost.

Setting Up Your Payment Method

Any Amazon Instant Video purchase made from your Kindle Fire is charged to the 1-Click payment method associated with your Amazon.com account default shipping address.

To set up or change your Kindle 1-Click payment setting:

  1. Go to Kindle Payment Settings.
  2. Under the Your Default 1-Click Payment Method section, click Edit.
  3. Select a payment method or enter a new card, and then click Continue.
  4. Select a billing address by clicking Use this address or entering a new billing address, and then click Continue.

Note: All purchases, streaming, or downloads of Amazon Instant Video content requires you to be within the United States and to use a U.S. credit card.

Using Gift Cards

To use Gift Cards and promotional codes, make sure you apply these to your account before you tap Buy or Rent.

Some or all of your promotional balance may be restricted to specific stores within Amazon.com and may not be used for some Amazon Instant Video titles.

Shopping for Videos

You can shop for videos in the Amazon Instant Video store by tapping Video from the Home screen. The video application on your Kindle Fire provides access to more than 100,000 movies and TV episodes available for rental or purchase.

Amazon Prime members have access to Prime Instant Video. Watch new release movies and day after air TV episodes, plus thousands of videos available to Amazon Prime members at no additional cost. Learn more about Amazon Prime and Kindle Fire.

Amazon Instant Video

Browse titles by tapping View All, or enter a title in the search bar at top to search for a video. To purchase, tap Watch Now for instant playback with a Wi-Fi connection, or tap Download to save the video to your Kindle Fire. To watch a movie or TV episode you have already purchased or rented, tap Library at the top right of your screen.

Prime Instant Video

Amazon Prime members can browse Prime Instant Video titles on the Video store homepage, or search for a specific title in the search bar. When you see the Prime logo, that video is included for instant streaming at no additional charge with your Prime membership. Tap Watch Now for instant playback when connected to Wi-Fi.

Prime Instant Video titles aren't available for download. However, you can rent or buy most videos, then download and view them offline without a Wi-Fi connection. For Prime Instant Video eligibility details and more information, go to www.amazon.com/help/primevideo.

Setting Parental Controls

You can control the content that's accessible on your Kindle Fire. To turn on Parental Controls for Amazon Instant Video purchases on your Kindle Fire:

  1. On the Home screen, tap the Quick Settings icon.
  2. Tap the More icon.
  3. Tap Parental Controls .
  4. Switch Parental Controls to the ON position.
  5. Enter and confirm a Parental Controls Password.
  6. Click Finish.

Amazon Instant Video Parental Controls can be applied to any device registered to your account and only restricts viewing.

Clearing Search History

To erase your Kindle Fire video search history, tap Video from the Home screen, tap the Menu icon, tap Settings, and then tap Clear search history.

Using Your Watchlist

When you find a movie or TV episode you want to watch later, add it to Your Watchlist. Titles you add to Your Watchlist also appear on Your Watchlist on other compatible devices.

  • To add content to Your Watchlist, go to the video's detail page and tap Add to Watchlist.
  • To see Your Watchlist, in Video, tap the Menu icon, and then tap Your Watchlist. For more information, go to Your Watchlist Help page.

Purchasing and Watching Videos

Amazon Instant Video

After you find a video you want to purchase, tap the price button, and then tap Buy or Rent. Your purchase is automatically charged to your 1-Click payment method.

To watch your video while connected to Wi-Fi, tap Watch Now.

You can also watch videos offline. Tap Download to save the video to your Kindle Fire. To pause or cancel your download, tap Options, and then choose the option you want.

After your video is downloaded, you can watch your movie, even without a Wi-Fi connection, by tapping Watch Now.

Prime Instant Video

To stream a Prime instant video title, tap Watch Now.

Prime Instant Video titles aren't available for download. However, you can rent or buy most videos, then download and view them offline without a Wi-Fi connection.

Note: You can stream two Amazon Instant Video or Prime Instant Video titles at the same time for each Amazon.com account. You are limited to the Amazon Instant Video Usage Rules.

Using Video Controls

To access the video controls, tap your Kindle Fire screen while watching a video.

  • To decrease or increase the volume, drag your finger left or right over the volume scroll bar on the top right.
  • To pause or resume a video, tap the pause button located on the bottom left.
  • To rewind 10 seconds, tap the button on the top left of your screen.
  • To scrub backwards or forwards in the video, use your finger to drag the scroll bar on the bottom of the screen left or right.

High Definition

Although you can purchase HD videos from your device or on Amazon.com, your videos play in standard definition (SD) on the Kindle Fire.

To view HD content in Your Video Library, use an Amazon Instant Video compatible device.

Purchase and Rental Details

When you rent a video, you may view it during a rental period (typically 24-48 hours), which begins when you tap Watch Now or Play. Unless otherwise stated in the Rental & Purchase Details on the video's product detail page, you have 30 days from your purchase to start your rental period. You may stream the same video to one device at a time and up to two different videos at the same time from the same Amazon.com account. You may download a rental video to one Kindle Fire and instantly stream it to another compatible device.

When you buy a video, you may watch it as often as you like (subject to the limitations described in the Amazon Instant Video Terms of Use). You may stream the same video to one device at a time and up to two different videos at the same time from the same Amazon.com account. You may download a purchased video to up to two compatible download devices. After downloading a video you retain the ability to stream the video to compatible devices. Whispersync on Kindle Fire

Amazon Whispersync technology keeps track of where you pause or stop a video so you can resume watching on your Kindle Fire, PC, Mac, or one of hundreds of compatible TVs and devices.

Accessing Your Video Library

To access Your Video Library, tap Video from the Home screen and then tap Library.

You can view videos previously rented or purchased from any device on your Amazon.com account when the Cloud option is selected. When the Device option is selected, you can see all videos downloaded to your Kindle Fire. These videos can be viewed while offline without a Wi-Fi connection.

To watch a previously purchased video, select the Movie or TV episode you want to watch, and then tap Watch Now or Resume.

To pause or play your video, or to adjust the volume, tap the middle of your Kindle Fire screen while watching a video to display playback controls.

Note: When you are offline and launch the Video application, your Library on the Device opens. These are the videos you can access while offline.

Deleting Videos

Deleting videos frees storage space on your Kindle Fire. On the Home screen, tap Video, tap Library, and then browse the video's product detail page. Tap the Delete option in the download box. Your video remains in your Cloud Library where it can be watched or downloaded again.

Transferring Videos

To download content from Amazon Instant Video, tap Download within the Video application. Free Prime Instant Video content isn't available for download, but many titles can be downloaded if purchased. USB cable transfers aren't available. Go to Purchasing and Watching Videos for instructions.

Personal videos aren't supported within the Video content library on your Kindle Fire.

To watch personal videos on your Kindle Fire, you can download the video from the web through the Amazon Silk browser or transfer the video to your Kindle Fire via USB. To watch personal videos, launch the Gallery app and tap the video.
