Quick Guide to Using Your Kindle Touch

After you register your Kindle Touch and set up your 1-Click payment method, you can start using your Kindle.

Go to the Home Screen

From the Home screen, you can view items in Your Kindle Library in the Cloud or view and open items that are on your Kindle Touch. You can also access settings to connect to Wi-Fi or receive items that have been delivered to your Kindle.

  1. From any screen, press the Home button near the bottom of your Kindle Touch.
  2. Kindle Touch goes into sleep mode if it is idle for approximately 10 minutes. To wake up Kindle Touch and show the Home screen, press the Power button at the bottom of the device, then press the Home button.

Connect to Wi-Fi

If your Kindle does not include 3G or is not connected to a 3G network, connect to a Wi-Fi network to shop, buy, download, or sync content.

  1. From Home, tap the Menu image of menu icon 
				icon, and then tap Settings.
  2. Tap Wi-Fi Networks, select the network to connect to, and then, if required, enter the password.
  3. Tap Connect.

When you successfully connect to a Wi-Fi network, the top-right corner of the screen shows the Wi-Fi status and the signal strength of the network.

Buy & Download

After you connect wirelessly and set up your 1-Click payment method, you can buy books, magazines, and newspapers from the Kindle Store and download them directly to your Kindle Touch.

  1. Go to the Kindle Store.
    • From Home, tap the Shop image of shopping cart
				  icon.
    • While reading, tap the top of the screen to show the toolbar, and then tap the Shop image of shopping cart
				  icon.
  2. Browse or search for items, and then tap Buy to download the book or periodical.
    Tip: Tap Try a Sample to download the beginning of the book for free.

After you purchase an item, it is stored in your Kindle Library in the Cloud so you can download it to other Kindle devices or apps registered to the same account.

Read

After you download items to your Kindle Touch, you can start reading. You do not need to be connected wirelessly to read on your device.

  1. From Home, tap the Device tab to view the items that are downloaded to your device.
    Tip: Tap the Cloud tab to show titles not downloaded to your Kindle. Make sure that you are connected wirelessly, and then tap a title to download it to your device.
  2. Browse, sort, or search for items on your device.
  3. Tap an item to open it and begin reading.
    Note: If you read a sample prior to purchasing the full book, the book opens at the same location you were at in the sample.
  4. To change pages, tap the screen or swipe across the screen:
    • To show the next page, tap the middle or swipe right to left.
    • To show the previous page, tap the left side or swipe left to right.

Sync

After you connect wirelessly, you can sync your Kindle Touch to receive titles that were delivered to your device. You can also sync titles that you are reading on other Kindle devices or Kindle reading apps.

  • From Home, tap the Menu image of menu icon 
				icon, and then select Sync & Check for Items.

    Titles that were delivered to your Kindle and saved bookmarks and annotations should start downloading to your device.

  • While reading, tap the Menu icon, and then tap Sync to the Furthest Page Read.

    When you are finished, always return to the Home screen to avoid syncing errors.

Remove Books from Your Kindle

After you are finished reading a book on your Kindle Touch, you can remove it from your device.

To save your book's bookmarks, highlights, or notes, make sure Whispersync (the Kindle device synchronization feature) is on before you remove your Kindle book.

  1. Press the Home button.
  2. Press and hold the book cover or book title.
  3. Select Remove from Device.

When you remove a book from your device, the book is saved in the Cloud and still accessible from Manage Your Kindle.

To permanently remove the book from your device and from your Kindle Library, go to Manage your Kindle Content.
