1. Get Connected

The first time you turn on your Kindle Fire, you'll see some simple instructions to guide you through the setup process. First, you'll be directed to connect to a wireless network.

Your Kindle Fire is able to connect wirelessly via Wi-Fi and automatically detects nearby Wi-Fi networks that broadcast their network name. You'll connect your Kindle Fire wirelessly through your home Wi-Fi network, or places that offer Wi-Fi access, such as a hotel or your favorite café

(What is Wi-Fi?)

Tap the name of the network you wish to join.

If you see a lock symbol next to the Wi-Fi name, this network requires a password. To connect to a password-protected Wi-Fi network, tap the name of the network, then enter the Wi-Fi network password using the onscreen keyboard. The password is the one used to set up the Wi-Fi network, not your Amazon account password. If you don't know this password, contact the person who set up the Wi-Fi network.

Tip: Tap the box next to Show password to display your password as you type. Tap the 123!? key to enter numbers or symbols. Tap the ABC key to return to the regular keyboard. Tap the Shift key (up arrow) for uppercase letters.

Once you have successfully connected to a Wi-Fi network, your Kindle Fire will automatically reconnect to it when it detects a signal from that network. To connect to a different network or if you are having difficulty connecting, learn more about Connecting Your Kindle Fire Wirelessly.

Tip: Using your Kindle Fire with wireless turned off will help your battery last longer.

2. Select Your Time Zone

Select your local time zone, and tap the Continue button.

3. Register Your Kindle

(Why do I need to register?)

  1. Enter the email address and password of your Amazon account.
  2. Tap the Register button when finished.

If you don't already have an Amazon account, tap the Create an account link, or visit Amazon.com on your computer to create one.

When registering your Kindle Fire, you may see a "deregister" instead of "register" option. This means your Kindle Fire is already registered to another account. This may happen if you received your new Kindle Fire as a gift. Select "deregister" to register your Kindle Fire to your Amazon account instead.
