About Watching Videos Previously Downloaded to Your PC

You can use Windows Media Player to watch videos you previously purchased and downloaded to your PC with the Amazon Unbox application.

Important: The Amazon Unbox application is no longer available. However, if you previously used the app to download your purchased movies or TV episodes, you can continue to watch those videos through Windows Media Player on the same PC.

Watching Your Previously Downloaded Videos

Windows Media Player is a standard media player included with most Windows PCs. If it isn’t currently installed on your computer, you can download it through Microsoft Support.

To open Windows Media Player:

  • Windows 8 & 8.1: Swipe in from the right edge of your screen, and then tap Search. (If you're using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer up, and then click Search). Then, enter "Windows Media Player" in the search box, and tap or click Windows Media Player.
  • Windows 7, Vista & XP: Click the Start button, and select All Programs. Then click Windows Media Player.

Movies and TV episodes you've previously downloaded to your PC are available under "Videos" in your Windows Media Player library. Select a video and click Play to start watching.

Tip: You can also use your Windows "Search" tool to find a specific video file downloaded to your computer. Enter the title of the movie or TV episode, and look for "Windows Media" or "Video" files in the results. Click a video file to launch playback in Windows Media Player.

If you're having trouble installing or watching videos with Windows Media Player, Microsoft Support will be in the best position to help.

Other Ways to Watch

All of your purchased videos, including videos you previously downloaded to your computer, are always available in Your Video Library. You can stream them through your computer's web browser as well as hundreds of compatible devices, including Smart TVs, game consoles, and Android phones. Videos are available for streaming and download on iOS and Fire devices.

For more information, go to Amazon Video Device Features.

Uninstalling Amazon Unbox

If you still have the Amazon Unbox application on your PC, you'll be prompted to uninstall it using your Windows Control Panel.

During the uninstall process, you'll see a confirmation screen asking whether you'd like to keep or delete videos you’ve downloaded to your PC using Unbox.

Important: To maintain access to your purchased and downloaded videos within Windows Media Player, you'll need to select the Keep my videos option in the confirmation window.
