DVD and Blu-ray Region Encoding
Global region codes identify specific DVDs and Blu-ray discs that are compatible with the players typically sold in that region. The majority of all current titles play in only one specific region unless otherwise noted.
Most of the DVDs and Blu-ray discs sold by Amazon.com are encoded for Region 1 (for standard DVDs) or Region A (for Blu-ray discs) only and may not work on DVD or Blu-ray players in other countries.
PAL vs. NSTC
NTSC is the video standard used in North America and most of South America. PAL is the predominant video standard mostly used outside of those areas.
Please note that for any disc that is indicated as PAL you must have a multi-format DVD/Blu-ray player that plays PAL format to view it. It won't play on standard DVD/Blu-ray players sold in the United States.
If you're interested in buying DVDs or Blu-ray discs from other regions, try our international sites.
International VHS Formats
All of the videos sold by Amazon.com follow the 60 Hz, NTSC format. This is the video format used in North America and Japan. NTSC videotapes will not work on most videocassette players in countries that use PAL, SECAM, or other video standards.
SECAM-format VHS tapes will work on players in France. You may purchase SECAM videos from Amazon.fr.
