I can't keep the new Kindle for PC app running. It starts to download my books and then stops responding. I see others are having the same problem. Anyone know what's going on?

I have two computers running Win7 now unable to access Kindle PC. Tried previous mentioned update link on one PC with no change.
I've uninstalled Kindle software and downloaded again with still no effect.
Is there more to this update then just downloading the file?
Plus, I didn't receive any notification of an issue...
P.S. Don't you guys validate your software whenever making changes??

I just redownloaded my Kindle for PC app. I am not sure when or how it went missing from my desktop, but it did. I now have some selections that will not open, and there is a message box that pops up and says that it will not open (duh) and that it should be removed from the device and redownloaded. Will I have to pay for the item again to do this? I can't find anything anywhere that addresses this particular thing...
Thanks.

Riosilk, this happens because Amazon encodes book files differently for each of your readers. During upgrading you somehow made the new K4PC considered a separate reader from the old one, for the purpose of Amazon DRM (copy protection), probably because you de-registered and de-installed the old one first (although even this should generally be safe).

You won't have to pay again, and the procedure of "refreshing" the content is quick. Select "All Items" and title sort, right click on the item in question and select "Remove from Device". It will just acquire a cloud icon on the cover, meaning it is no longer on the PC, but in Amazon's cloud. Right click again and select "Download", and it will download again, this time correctly encoded for the new instance of K4PC.
