I just had the same problem, so you just need hard reset. Hold button at least 20 seconds and then push once quickly..no problem

Thank you.

I'm glad it's not only me!! When charging overnight it stays on yellow light till morning. I can be using it, put it down for an hour and Poof!! Dead. I hold the button down and it comes back. But this is an ongoing problem. I am an Amazon lover but I'm not happy - fix it guys!

I am having the same issue as everyone on this thread. I got my kindle fire a day after it was released and have been in love with it. It wasn't until a few days ago did I realize my fire won't turn on so I assumed it ran out of battery but when I charged it to the outlet plug, there was still no sign of life. It wasn't until I searched the net to come across this thread did I somewhat resolve the issue to get my fire running again with the reset. Now its become a constant issue that every time I want to use the fire, I have to reset it. What gives, Amazon? Things were kicking off really awesome but now this issue is really dampening my kindle fire experience.

Has anyone had this problem? I've been using my Kindle Fire without any issues at all. And all of the sudden, I put my Fire down, to do something else - and, now it won't turn on. And, when I plug it in (even though I know it was plenty charged when I used it an hour ago), the light to indicate charging does not light up.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

My kindle just did this today for the first time and I am upset. I just purchased a lot of books oh how I wish it would come back on!!! I will try reset like messages say below. I haven't had this kindle 1 month yet. Ugh....

I have had this happen twice, and it has not been able to turn on for over 12 hours. I tried holding the power button for various lengths of time with no result. The charge light will not come on when plugged in. Amazon needs to figure this out. Does anyone have a service phone number or anything?

I have the same problem. I let it sit for about 10 minutes, press the power on button two times in quick succession, it came back again.

If you are talking about the Kindle Fire, this may help.

Copied from Amazon.com,,

To perform a reset on your Fire (disconnect from any power-source and hold the power button for a minimum of 20 seconds. After the device has completely turned off, press the power button to restart your Kindle Fire.)

OMG - how frustrating!! I had to sign for mine ... did they not require a signature on the new one??

They left mine sitting on the front porch in a box that says Kindle Fire on it!

That is so strange!! Maybe the UPS people in my area are just very cautious... but, I definitely had to sign for mine (makes sense for them to want you to sign, so they don't get blamed if anything goes missing... so, probably why they do). I would have been mad too! I hope you get your replacement and soon. Hard to believe that they couldn't just put 'delivery confirmation - signature required' (or whatever the official 'option' is) on the shipment... I'd maybe ask to speak to a supervisor about that, b/c I don't know why they wouldn't - would be in their best interest too. Or, alternatively, could you have it shipped to your work??

They left mine sitting on the front porch and the box of course says Kindle Fire on it!

I sure wish I had read these posts before returning my Kindle Fire today to Staples. I guess I'll order another one from Amazon. I only had it a few days before it froze up on me. I turned it off and then it would not come back on.

So I preordered a kindle fire...
Besides the fact that staples and best buy had their kindle fires for well over a month before I received mine, I finally get the dang thing and it can only handle two hours of kindle-ing before it took a nap and never woke up.
(Kindle assistance phone numbers provided in previous posts were very helpful)
After dozens of failed attempts of force quitting with the help of my kindle helper, he also quit. My new kindle will be here tomorrow.
Thank the heavens I gave up on my fire two weeks before I even got it.
So far my xoom has treated me very well. Mom can have the kindle fire....

To All above:.

That have the Kindle Fire, Do you have Kindle Fire Software Update Version 6.2? If not scroll down a bit read and get it. That may solve your problems, also

To perform a reset on your Kindle Fire (disconnect from any power-source and hold the power button for a minimum of 20 seconds. After the device has completely turned off, press the power button to restart your Kindle Fire.)

Also you may want to Print a Copy of the Kindle Fire User Guide,

I have had the same problem twice. This last time I called Amazon and was transferred to Tech Support. While I was waiting to be connected I tried the 30 second hard start and it came on. Tech Support went thru some diagnostic steps with me and said everything seemed fine at there end(they could see my devices settings, etc.) They said next time it happens to call them(866 321-8851) before I try to hard start it and they will be able to "observe" my device while it is having this problem. They seemed genuinely concerned with helping me.

I just had this same problem and decided to call customer support and it all of a sudden decided to come on. I knew that it had a full battery when I put it down, so I didn't understand. I plugged it in to charge and no charge light came on. It was like it was dead. It has decided to work at the current time. I hope this doesn't keep happening!

Holding down for 20 secs worked for me and all my apps are still there luckily. I hope they get a patch out to fix this.

I had the same problem with my Kindle Fire a few minutes ago. Went to turn it on, and nothing. Knew my battery was charged, but went ahead and held power button down. Plugged it back in, and it came on pretty quick. Scary!! Especially since it seems a lot of people are having this issue. Hopefully Amazon gets it straightened out.

My kindle fire will not hold a charge, also will "turn itself on" if I try to charge it, will not stay "OFF".
Battery life is maybe an hour, at best. As for WiFi connection, frequently unreliable in connecting or staying connected. This all started happening after about one of use. Unreliable and frustrating.

I'm so glad I found this discussion thread. Mine just did the exact same thing to me, and I started to have a Kindle-panic-attack (hah!).

I had plugged it in to charge and set it down. Came back to use it and it would not turn on, and the charge light was not on (not orange or green, just off). I thought I might have not plugged it in properly and the battery had died perhaps, but plugging it in again didn't help, even over time. Did a quick Google search and found this thread, and was reminded about the 20-second hard reset. I did it, but no go, so I thought maybe I didn't count right, so I did it again for a count of 30 seconds. Nothing appeared to happen, but a single button click after that, it began to boot up, thankfully.
