Kindle4pc will not register, get error 1001

Every time I try to register the Kindle4pc app on my home computer (running Win XP) I get error 1001 as soon as I hit the register button once having entered my email address and password. I have another PC app registered, so it's not like I don't know how to do it. Going to my account I can see that the app has created an entry as a registered device, but I can't use it. Starting up the app on the computer it is always unregistered.
I found one other question like this on searching the forum, the answer there was only to uninstall the app and try again making certain to use the latest install file. I have tried this numerous times, always with the same result.
This is very frustrating.

It's hard to believe I'm the only other one ever to have this problem.

Is it a security or firewall issue? Is it that we cannot have the kindle pc app registered on more than 1 pc a time?

I thought the Kindle support folks monitored these messages, I thought that was what this forum was for.
I guess I was wrong. Then what's the point?
You would think that someone would at least tell us what the error 1001 means.
For what it's worth, the first thing I tried was to set my firewall to give the kindle4pc app all privileges, and it still won't work.

Well, I guess we are just drifting out to sea here with no support.
Thanks.

I am having the same problem, worked fine until recently, now no matter what I try this app refuses to work correctly. I'm running an up to date version of win 7. None of the advice I searched for to fix it on the net helps. I've tried everything I can think of short of reinstalling mu operating system (not gonna happen). Something is goofy.
I get the "cannot save registration error" 1001 , now the app has started to crash instantly when I try to launch it. I've tried everything--cleaning the registry, installing using "internet explorer, Saving to the disk then installing, changing permissions, unregistering through amazon, trying to install previous versions, installing in safe mode, turning off my antivirus while installing, uninstalling with Revo Uninstaller (supppose to remove all traces). There is something wrong with this app. I've never had this much trouble with a program. As I stated it worked fine up until a short time ago for me.
