Kindle screen problem

Hi,
Unfortunately, I have a serious problem with my Kindle screen. The last time I tried to unlock my device, horizontal lines appeared and almost the whole screen was frozen (around 3/4ths of the screen was covered with the screensaver picture, instead of the menu that should be displayed after unlocking the device). When I tried to unlock it again, more lines appeared and replaced the "frozen" screensaver. According to the Kindle Support page, I tried to restart the device (I held the power switch for 20 seconds, etc) but nothing changed.
The Kindle is fully charged and I have the latest software version.
Is there simple solution to my problem or do I have to call Kindle Support via telephone?

Thank you.

I had the same problem and since my Kindle was less than a year old, Amazon sent me a replacement.

It sounds like you all have damaged eink screens. That is not something that can be resolved. Putting pressure on the screen in your purses, etc, can cause this damage.Since the nook has an eink screen also, you would have had the same problem with them.

@L.LEVERTON: I am almost sure that it wasn't caused by the pressure or another physical damage, beacause the Kindle was in a leather protector in a laptop bag.
@Katie, @Savvy Shopper: Tommorow I will contact with the Kindle Support and then I will tell you what they said.

I just contacted Kindle support. They were EXTREMELY helpful. They said they thought I have a defective screen (mine didn't have any physical damage). They are sending out a new one today. I'll receive it in a day and a half. I had a great experience w Customer Service. Call them.

I have this same problem. I got my Kindle in May 2010 and the screen went bad in July 2011 so guess what no warranty. I called customer service and they offered to sell me a refurbished Kindle for $40 plus s/h. I take excellent care of my Kindle with the expensive leather cover and in fact it is not used that heavily. I am not inclined to pay more money for another device when the first barely lasted a year. I consider myself a decent customer buy books etc. Too bad I am out of luck with them. Guess I will get a Nook this time.

I had the same freaky problem. I contacted amazon support and they were really helpful. They figured out any physical damage and after we unsuccesfully tried troubleshooting the issue they decided to send me another one without any cost. It was covered by one-year warranty of the first Kindle. I had a great experience with Customer Service too!! Thumbs up Amazon!!

I called this number and since I have had my Kindle for less than a year it's replaced for free. I pray this doesn't happen again.
