Music Importer -- spinning circle

Having installed the Amazon Music Importer on my Win 7 64-bit system for the first time, I'm attempting to now import music but am not getting very far. When I navigate my browser (both Firefox and Chrome) to the Cloud Player and click "Import your music", the Music Importer launches, but just sits there with a spinning circle and no sign of progress. I never received any sort of prompt to authorize my PC for the Amazon Cloud, either during installation or otherwise. What can I do to get this to work?

Is this last line an indication that the servers are busy and not responding, and that's why the Music Importer continues to show the spinning circle? If so, might it not convey this information in a more useful manner?

I have sent them an email as well. In the hour since I started trying this, I re-downloaded and got a different version -- newer build number in the installer name. This gets me past the spinning circle to a mostly-blank page in the window, and the log now indicates it actually talked to the server and needs to authorize my PC, but with nothing actually displaying in the program window. Maybe they're just working on this now...

Edit: Check that -- one more reinstallation of this same version, and all appears to be working now.

You say you got it working? I have the same mostly-blank page problem. How did you solve it?

I think I ended up uninstalling it, then redownloading it through Chrome and reinstalling it. The build of the redownloaded version was the same, but it just worked once reinstalled for some reason. Not sure if using Chrome had anything to do with it, because after that it worked with Firefox too, but it probably wouldn't hurt to try it.

The importer is not working at all for me as well. Extremely unimpressed with the the recent cloud player changes so far. Ive been purchasing my music almost exclusively from Amazon for the last year, but if I am going to pay for the cloud space for my entire collection anyway, then I might as well purchase from Itunes if they have a better deal. I am not sure this strategy works well for Amazon in the long run.

This issue is something that should be resolved by uninstalling your current version and installing the newest version from the website.

Just visit this page to download the Amazon Music Importer: http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html/?nodeId=200593730#install

Feel free to post back letting us know if this helped!

I don't even get as far as the others. I downloaded and installed the music importer but when I click on "import my music" from cloud player I get the pop up windows telling me to download and install the importer. It doesn't even seem to know the software is there. I have re-installed three times now and the exact same thing occurs. The install file I used was downloaded not 15 minutes ago. I am using Chrome and it looks like the other users having issues got it to work in this browser. Suggestions?

Update...tried with Firefox and the software started running. So in order to get this to work in Chrome are you suggesting I need to continue to re-install until to works?

On my Windows 7 x64 system, the Importer loads but before it gets past the pinwheel, Adobe Air reports an error and tells me to try again or report it to Amazon Customer Service. I was on the phone with two support personnel yesterday, but they were totally out of their depth.

I uninstalled and then repeated the download and install completely within Internet Explorer. That seemed to resolve the issue. (Prior attempts had been with Chrome). FWIW I also had to manually remove the folder "c:\program files (x86)\Amazon\Utilities\Amazon Music Importer" for the reinstall to proceed - the uninstall seemed to have left it (though that could be because I had an explorer window open on it during the uninstall.)

Add me to the list too. I on Win7 x64. Tried with Chrome and Cloud Player wouldn't recognize that Importer was installed and kept asking me to install it. I uninstalled and repeated the process with IE9. I've been looking at the the spinner in a blank import window for 15 minutes now.

I am having the same problem. The importer was working fine on Wednesday, but then, when I tried it again Thursday night (all of my music was not imported the on the first attempt) I got the message to install the music importer software. So I downloaded the latest version of the importer, and then when I hit the "Import Music" button, I get the same message to download the importer. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but it still doesn't work. I am using Chrome. I will try to Firefox or IE when I get home from work later today. the I am using a Windows 7, x64 computer. So far, the importer has imported about 60 percent of my music.

I too am getting the adobe air error box that says "The amazon music importer has encountered a problem and needs to exit. Please restart the importer and try again." I have uninstalled Adobe Air and reinstalled it, I have downloaded the importer in Firefox, Chrome, and IE and it didn't work from any of them. I have uninstalled the app before reinstalling it each time. I have deleted the Amazon folders before reinstalling it. So far I cannot get it to work. I asked Amazon Customer support yesterday and was basically told it should be fixed in 24-48 hours which to me means he had no idea what else to tell me. I'm on a Win XP SP/2 machine. At one point I uninstalled Adobe Air and the importer and tried to install the importer and it told me it couldn't connect to install Adobe Air. Also, each time I have uninstalled the Importer, the dialogue box does not have words in it, just little boxes in places of letters like corrupt ASCII or something. Any ideas out there?

Same issue here.....the Importer application says I need to go to the web-based cloud player and select "Import Your Music". I press "Import Your Music" and it tells me I need to install the Importer application. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling it several times to no avail. I was able to import about 30,000 songs the other day but have a significant amount of missing tracks and incorrect art work despite the fact that I have cleaned all of the ID3 tags. This is definitely a work in progress and I am trying to decide whether I should demand a refund and cancel my subscription. This tool is not ready for prime time by any means.

I have tried to run the music importer on three different win7 64-bit systems. All failed. They would always request I install the importer even though it was already installed. Next I installed firefox and I installed the latest adobe flash. This worked!! It maybe that installing the latest flash is the key. After my music library is imported I will try it with chrome.

I just upgraded to Cloud Premium and I received a prompt to install the music importer. Did that. Like Will, have not received a notice to authorize the computer. I run the installation and it says to go to my cloud player and click on import your music. When I do that I get a pop up with the installation instructions. There is obviously a glitch.....Frustrated!~!!

For all those having trouble with the Cloud Importer, did you try contacting Cloud Support from the link in reg's post? It's the third post in this discussion.

I'm getting this message in a pop-up window, too: "The application Amazon_Importer_Helper quit unexpectedly." I've tried launching it from Safari, from Chrome and from Firefox, same result every time. It was all working fine until a couple days ago when Amazon changed everything. Then my browser suddenly wouldn't recognize that I already had the Importer installed. I uninstalled and reinstalled, no good. So I uninstalled Adobe Air and the Importer, then reinstalled the whole dang thing, no good. C'mon, Amazon! Please fix this! I really like the cloud player, but I can't upload anything else.

I got it to work but I'm not sure if this will work for everybody.
I opened Amazon in another browser, Firefox, which I don't use much anymore on my home computer, and, because I haven't used this browser for a while, I was asked for my password on Amazon.com.
After entering my password, I went to Cloud Player to import my music, and it worked. So as a fix you may want to try signing out of Amazon and then signing back in. I'm not sure if the internet browser you use makes a difference, or the fact that I was signed out of Amazon.

I have the exact same message after doing the same. I have gone through the steps numerous times. Changed between same browsers. Contacted Amazon customer service via chat and telephone and still awaiting answer from the so called Amazon Cloud developers where the problem was passed onto. Incredible that Amazon wouldn't have tested this thoroughly beforehand. I think the problem is with Amazon using Adobe Air.

************************EVERYONE PLEASE READ!!!!!***********************

After have trying several attempts and having many issues with the "Amazon Music Importer" if you find yourself having a swirling loading logo for the importer the best thing to do is.
1. goto Add/Remove by searching or locating it in the control panel and Uninstalling the Mp3 amazon importer.
2. Locate the file in "programs files" or on windows 7 64bit "program files (x86)" delete the folder AMAZON.
3. click on your recycle bin on your computer and empty the recycle bin.. "this is very important since when reinstalling the mp3 uploader this will pull files from the recycle bin and not fix your issue.
4. install the mp3 importer by going back to the amazon cloud player with only the following browsers "Firefox's latest version of browser OR Internet Explorer Latest version" PLEASE NOTE THAT GOOGLE'S CHROME BROWSER IS NOT SUPPORTED AT THIS TIME OF POST.
5. once the download has complete and you have installed the importer simply click on the importer on your desktop icon that it has created.
6. Name the Authorized device if you wish and simply browse for your music folder so the importer knows directly where your music is.

Note Make sure you have the latest version of adobe air should of been installed in this process.. If not please update adobe air to the latest version.

******UPDATE IMPORTANT MUST MUST READ ****** workaround 08/05/2012

OK so following the steps I did earlier I wanted to add if you REMOVE and uninstall make sure you search for any filies that have been left over with the windows search by typing in Amazon. Once you have located any folders delete them and empty the recycle bin.
1. after completeing the steps above...
2. You'll need to delete your entire amazon music importer make sure you delete everything from the uploaded area excluding anything you have bought.
3. begin the process your normally do with scanning for music by " browsing to the folder location" no scan and once that is complete just import all.. My importer has been running smottly for the past 30 minutes with no issues.

Does not work...... failed not responding\
was only able to import 1,103 songs

*********UPDATE 3 08/07/2012*********
Well I have pretty much tried everything from what I've listed above. Even disabled all my firewall and anti-virus scanner and windows one as well. I've tried using this on my Mac 10.6 several times I just cannot get the music to upload unless it's a small amount of songs.. So I have Canceled my subscription to amazon music player and as well as the cloud drive. It was nice when you could upload your songs for FREE because I just realized shortly before this subscription came out that I could upload my music with an unlimited number of songs compared to googles 20,000 free and Itunes 25,000 songs for 25 dollars a year. As much as I love doing business with buying and selling on amazon. I never want to do any sorta of cloud importing for the next several years. Because I honestly believe it's going to take SEVERAL years for amazons cloud support team/programmers to get someone that actually knows how to code a piece of software to make things just work.. So I'll be waiting for your Google and you as well Itunes. I surely hope you increase your song limit because You automatically have a subscriber. To bad for you Amazon as much joy you bring to me when I find deals and read reviews from the good the bad and the ugly so I don't buy those bad products.. This is by far one of the WORST products I've EVER used on amazon and it's YOURS not another company. SO PLEASE fix these bugs for the new subscribers that you get because, I'm sure they won't want to have to go through the frustration of everything I've have went through to try and get none of my songs uploaded.

Good buy amazon cloud support team I'll never call your phone support to try and give you any assistance on bugs I've encountered anymore because I no longer give a Shi*.
Just in case you want a direct line to them as well for anyone that reads this 1(866)439-0313 call from 9am CST to 8pm to avoid calling someone overseas as they only say "OK" all the time and NEVER HAVE a freaking clue as to what you're talking about. I'm almost positive that only a handful of people actually know what issues that customers are dealing with and those hand full are tasked with fixing this software and don't have the combined knowledge for doing so.
