SIGNED. First edition, first printing. As New hardcover; no dj as issued. BOOKS SHIP THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY, WRAPPED IN PADDING, BOXED. Photographs and introduction by Joan Fontcuberta; essay by Geoffrey Batchen. 96 pages; 80 full-page color plates; 12 x 8.75 inches. SIGNED BY FONTCUBERTA on the half title page, inscribed and dated in 2007. LAID IN is a multi-panel promotional brochure for the book, a gallery invite for a show of Fontcuberta's work and two reviews of 1990s exhibits of his work. Fontcuberta subjects various landscapes--among them ones by Cezanne, Turner, Weston, and Dali, as well as photographs of his own body--to the manipulation of landscape-rendering software originally designed for the military and scientific communities. The limited visual vocabulary of the programs translates contours (like floppy clocks) into natural elements such as hills, rivers, clouds, and the like. The first major monograph to be published in the United States by one of Spain's most prominent and innovative artists.
