Fun and full of adventure with much history of the midwest tossed in.
Be sure to read "The Worst Hard Time: The Untold Story of Those Who Survived the Great American Dust Bowl" after this book... it will give the continued, and necessary, story of the impact of the changing agricultural focus on the midwest.

I usually stay away from historical fiction that focuses on war. But this book surprised me, entertained me, and kept me extremely focused.... even through the detailed battles.
I highly recommend this to any reader of history or historical fiction.
