Maxwell is a quick pocket reference that I would recommend to any medical student or intern.

It is concise and organized by color coded pages, very easy to carry in your jacket.

There are sections on ACLS protocols, normal values, how to write common orders and procedure notes, APGAR scores/immunization schedules, GCS/neuro exam/dermatomes, as well as how to write an H & P. It also includes several blank pages for you to include your own notes.

This is a well-conceived anesthesiology handbook that is written by residents for residents. Covering all major anesthesia topics in an outline format, it great for reference but also can be read from cover-to-cover for a quick review. Its small size makes it perfect for carrying in a white coat pocket for daily reference.

It includes lists and tables of indications, dosages, treatments, and guidelines, although they may want to expand some of these in future versions. It has very helpful tables and charts on commonly seen co-existing diseases, such as valvular disease, with bullet point suggestions for anesthetic management. Complications: A Surgeon's Notes on an Imperfect Science, is a series of interconnected essays that touch on the nature of modern medicine and the people who practice it. It is a powerful, compassionate, and well-written glance into a doctor's perspective of medicine and surgery.

Dr. Gawande describes vividly the inherent balance of science and art in surgery, and the process of tempering one's body of knowledge with gut instinct. Particularly potent are his passages discussing how physicians must practice on patients in order to become adept. Even a surgeon as skilled as Dr. Gawande once picked up a scalpel for the first time.
