"The Eagle of Spinalonga" is one of those books that, from the start, you want to continue reading because you're hooked by the well-delineated story and characters. Azoros breathes life into the serious, often-touching and desperate tale of those afflicted with leprosy before there was an effective treatment for it. The protagonist Nikos is a young lawyer who finds himself diagnosed with leprosy and condemned to the island of Spinalonga, a lawless colony of despair and want. Ever thought you'd like to try owning and running an inn? How about having to refurbish it, too? You may or may not want to do so after reading June Belfie's wonderfully written tale of the joys, hardships, rewards, and seemingly endless days of toil at their lovely bed-and-breakfast Pine Knob Inn. From beginning to end, the reader is entertained and entranced with Belfie's anecdotes of family, friends, pets, staff, and guests. It was so nicely presented and fascinating, I was sorry to come to the end of the book. With the Pine Knob Inn's interesting history, its owners and guests, this would make a great television series!

The photos on the book's cover of handsome military men, brothers, belie the truth of their lives and their mother Esther's struggles as she dealt with difficult marriages, life in the 20th Century, and her beloved family. The hardships women endured in this time period, are reflected in Kenneth's well-written and honest family history. The author recounts uncomfortable, sometimes embarrassing family anecdotes with the same candor as he does their joys and victories. Read on and enjoy as I did, a view into the tale of a wonderful American family - I would call them The Salt of the Earth. Thank you Kenneth for sharing your family with us.

This is one of the most spritually inspiring books that I have ever read. I read something from it every day.
